Foust is SO authentic

Heh. Jets are still flying over head. There was an airshow here over the weekend for Canada day; they're all flying home now. I just watch a squad of F-18's fly in formation over my house. It's great; I turned my head towards the sound, and nothing. Then I looked about 45 degrees in another direction, and there they were.

Anybody ever attend one of these awesome events?

I've been to two, one at an American airbase and one in Farnborough. At the Farnborough one some bright spark started selling fake guns on a stall meaning lots of kids running around with itchy-looking security staff running after them!

Used to go to them all the time as a kid, and once or twice since. Awesome in at least two senses of the word.

A couple of weeks ago I was awoken from my Saturday early afternoon slumber by all sorts of military jets passing low overhead towards Buckingham Palace for a fly-past over the Trooping of the Colour. I thought for a minute WWIII had kicked off -- housemates weren't concerned at all and simply assumed that the planes were just on their way to land at London City Airport ... so I don't think I will be counting on them for my four-minute warning :-)

My in-laws live in Farnborough, and I've had the pleasure of standing in their back garden while The Biggest Plane in the World flew overhead, practicing manouvres for the air show there. It was one of those Russian military transporters, which are made by and for giants - imagine a 25 storey block of flats flying along on its belly, with two slightly smaller blocks of flats for wings, passing over yer back garden at an altitude of 12 foot 6", at a speed of 0.001 mph. Fantastic stuff, but bloody dangerous for the people that live there, I reckon if a loose bolt fell off that thing it would knock out a bungalow. Bloody noisy, too, I saw cats and dogs flattened by the volume.

We had one a few years back and an F-something or other flew upsidedown slo close to my house I say the smile on the pilots face. Things were shaken off the shelves though.

Sitting in the back garden during the Farnborough airshow a Eurofighter and a spitfire flew over wing tip to wing tip, the jet looked like it was on the verge of stalling and the spitfire was going flat out, the Merlin engine virtually drowning out the sound of the jet.
The other was watching the Russian SU 37 from the road outside the perimeter fence.
BTW the next Farnborough airshow is next July.

Are the Red Arrows still going?

My entire childhood (spent on the South Coast) seems, at this distane, to have taken place with the Red Arrows droning away somewhere in the background.

Certainly are. Really wanted to join them when I was about 7. Ho hum. I think perhaps my dislike of flying destroyed that prospect.
