i'm generally not given to conspiracy theory and find the endless speculation down those avenues unhelpful. but then i come across the carlyle group and get worried. not that these guys are reptiles or anything, but if the conflicts of interest, to say nothing or moral and ethical implications, are anything to go by, they might as well be.

have a look at http://www.mg.co.za/mg/za/archive/2001nov/features/05nov-club.html and
http://www.judicialwatch.org/press_release.asp?pr_id=1624 ... and more with search terms ...

any ideas, comments?

The politics of big business aside for a moment bin Laden's family have renounced him publicly. OK so they're under investigation but are they not supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, it sounds like they are being hounded for a familial association.

Aside from that there are much stronger links between Osama and the government from when he used to work for the CIA.

Considering once the second Bush administration got into office the FBI were ordered in an internal memo (obtained by the Gaurdian) to back off investigations into the other bin Ladens (and other Saudis thought to finance terrorism) I'd be suspicious, particularly with the links like that involving Carlyle.

Here's a link which details part of it, http://gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=103&row=0

Oddly the Carlyle group own Le Figaro, the French newspaper that published the report of CIA meetings with Osama bin Laden in Dubai last July. Take from that what you will. They also own a company which bottles Dr. Pepper, just incase you're looking for something to boycott.
