I have always been puzzled by the lack of websites with annotations for Grant Morrison’s Zenith. For instance, I for one would love to know which British comic book heroes of the past are making their last stand in Book Three. Are there any such sites and have I simply been looking in all the wrong places? And if there aren’t, any chance of us ‘lithers taking up such a project in the near future?
Surfing that site sooo makes me want to reread 'Zenith' in its entirety. Like the way Yeowell's styled several characters on '80s musical icons - so Zenith (and Vertex) has the Morrissey quiff, Miss Wonderstarr is Siouxsie Sioux, and Clint Boon from the Inspiral Carpets makes a guest appearance.
Hmmm. Very nice. It's just made me reconsider flogging my zooad collection. Did ANYONE ever get issue 666, btw?
I recall that there was a very ince special which resurrected a lot of the old Victor characters. Must see if any of them are lsited...
A great site. I was very surprised to see that so many characters had been sourced from 'lost' British comics. Outside of Robot Archie, Billy Whiz/Johnny Quick etc. I was convinced that the rest were simply made up by GM. But a few other surprises in there as well - check out the original Zenith as envisioned by GM himself.
Steve Yeowell's art rocks. I think it is indeed time to dig out the old back issues........
I'd was vaguely familiar with around two thirds of the British characters who made cameos in 'War In Heaven' - but it's incredibly satisfying to compare them with their original incarnations on that site. Mmmm... closure...
Haus, for that link I owe you big time. That answers most of my questions about who was who. I also seem to recall that Grant Morrison mentioned (in an early F.A. interview with a young Mark Millar) that Phase III would feature "The Broons" in a concentration camp. That should be some of the people in Miss Wonderstarr's atrocity theme park, then.
