Slab 2

Hi, come in! Ooops… sorry… mind the spam… just set it down there, that's fine.

So, I have self-published again. I wasn't originally going to start a thread about this, just copy a PM to everyone I've spoken to about my stuff. But, there's no "send to many" function, and after a little reflection I realised that enough people had expressed an interest, or at least made some kind of noise that was interpreted by my fragile, adulation-hungry ego as an expression of interest, that I figured I'd be bound to miss someone out and it was easier all round to start a thread.

So here it is. Following is the text of an email I sent this morning, which some of you will have received anyway:

Yes indeed!

It's a Slabstravaganza, a veritable cornucopia of lumpen oddities! This one's got it all folks -

SPACE BATTLES!
SNAKE WRESTLING!
BEAUTIFUL WOMEN AND HUNKY MEN!

PLUS!

THE SECRET ORIGIN OF SLAB REVEALED AT LAST!

It's red-hot action the way you demanded it! Copies are currently available from:

Gosh Comics, Great Russell St (opposite the British Museum)
Orbital Comics & Collectibles, Old Compton St
Rough Trade Covent Garden, Neal's Yard

Or by mail from me for £2.50.

At this point I'd like to say an enormous, moist "thank you" to everyone who reviewed Slab 1, review copies of the new one are in the post as we speak.

Thank you for your time.

This has been a slablic service announcement

Londoners, if you're going to pick up new comics today anyway, you would do me a great honour by picking up a copy of my rag, and an even greater one by letting me know what you think. There are lots of other people to whom I've promised copies, please send me your address and I'll hook you up. If you're in the UK feel free to send me £2.50, if you're outside it's not really worth bothering about, although if you felt inclined to make an equivalent donation to Barbelith hosting costs that'd be lovely. Anyone I sent one to last time, please give me your address again, I'd love to know how people think the two compare.

Persephone - can I send you some copies? Say, 5 for Quimby's and 5 for QG? I promise I'll do you a biog today.

That's it.

PS - as I said, I'd love to get feedback from 'Lithers on this. I intended this thread as more an announcement than anything else, but if anyone has comments and would rather post them here than PM, that's absolutely fine, maybe even preferable. If that does happen I'll put in a mod request to have this moved to the Creation, possibly even to merge it with one of the existing "let's discuss each others' comics" threads.

Do you have any sample art or pages you could post?

Slab = cool name. I'll have a look for it in Orbital over the weekend.

Can't wait - do you still have my address or do you want me to PM it to you again?

Nope, still got it. Do you want a copy of #1, or have you seen that already?

I'll post a scan of the cover and a couple of interior pages this afternoon.

I would just like to say that I really enjoyed "Slab" 1 and will be looking for "Slab 2"!

Oh and I forgot to say and of course you'll have to ask Persephone this but if you're sending 5 for Quimby's why don't you send an additional 5 for Chicago Comics? They're both owned by the same people and although the stock is a little different comics-wise it's really not (Quimby's stocks zines galore and I think CC stocks more comics).

Anyway, Persephone what do you think? Of course Quimby's is in Wicker Park and Chicago Comics is in Lakeview, might make a diff as well...

I will definitely take some for Quimby's and QG, Lentil. I do also go to Chicago Comics (for NXM, you know); they do carry self-published comics, like Cherry sez. Probably the same deal as Quimby's, I think it's a good idea!

Me too! Thank you Persephone, and Cherry for suggesting it. Perse, I don't have your address, could you PM it to me?

Everyone who's posted on this thread rocks BASTARD HARD.

OK, I know Quimby's and Chicago COmics, but what (and where), pray tell, is QG?

QG is just my little site where I have a huuuuge* selection of comics produced by Barbelithers.

Picked it last night - lots of fun particularly the big slab- the art is much more dynamic than issue one.

That's because it wasn't all CGI like that last one, this relied more of a mixture of live action and muppets.

I think impulsivelad has summed up my creative process.

(thanks sleaze!)
