I just saw CQ last night for the 5th time and it got me thinking about Barbarella. Are there any more sexy, campy, sci-fi fantasy movies like this out there?

Um, what's CQ? Is that short for something?

CQ is the debut film by Roman Coppola. It's about an American filmmaker in Paris who is called upon to assemble an ending for an unfinished Barbarella-style SF romp when its Polanski-like director is fired by the film's financiers.

The film-within-a-film is called Codename: Dragonfly.

No, it's movie that came out last year called CQ. It's about a young film-maker is the 60's who's working on a Barbarella-type movie called Codename: DragonFly while also working on a smaller more personal film at home. He sorta falls in love with the main character, Fire Fly (not the actress playing her) and there are all these cool scenes were his real life and the movie bleed togehter. I love it.

Try The 10th Victim (1965), directed by Elio Petri. Based on a novel by Bob Sheckly, starring Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress. In a not-so-distant future, where everything looks like Italy in the 60s with jumpsuits, the worlds most popular sport is a global manhunt where players alternate between being hunter and victim. Rad soundtrack and sets, intensely cool sunglasses, and Mastroianni as a bottle-blond. Way sexy.

I would suggest "In Like Flint" the sequel to "Our Man Flint."

It has a very similar combination of outrageous sexuality, campy humor, deeper meaning, pulp adventure, ultra-modern design, and sheer coolness, albeit with slightly less science fiction....

Starcrash, with Caroline Munro(e?). Very bad, but entertaining. And Italian once more. Or Danger: Diabolik.

I was just about to mention Dangeriabolik. Not that I've seen it or anything, but it looks ace!

Danger: Diabolik is great, I saw it on MST3K, and it's the only film I've seen on there that I really enjoyed, even without the comments (though the comments are great). It's very 60's, and a lot of fun. The score is incredible also.

Better than Flash Gordon, Flesh Gordon! (1974)

Emperor Wang (the Perverted) is leader of the planet Porno and sends his mighty "Sex Ray" towards Earth, turning everyone into sex-mad fiends. Only one man can save the Earth, football player Flesh Gordon. Along with his girlfriend Dale Ardent and Professor Flexi-Jerkoff, they set off towards the source of the Sex Ray, unaware of the perils that face them!

Aside from the constant nudity, this movie also features a penisaurus, and power pasties. If you liked Barbarella, this is that and even more.

Even more scary, someone made a sequal in 1989: Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders. I haven't seen that one, though I'm sure its more of the same.
