This happened recently to a work colleague who shall remain nameless...

X works in the voluntary sector and has been helping put together a community project. They had a visit from Prince Andrew, so they tarted everything up, put up their posters and had their promotional items about for the people who would be coming to see the prince.

Our erstwhile colleague, for example, had a box of pencils made from recycled vending cups with the name of her project on.

Upon arrival, Prince Andrew did his job, wandering around, shaking hands etc until he came to a stop in front of out friend. Pointing at the box, he said: "What's that?"
Rather embarrassed, she mumbled: "It's a pencil."
Exasperated, the prince replied: "I know that! What's a vending cup?"
Our friend explained, whereupon the prince said: "We could do with some of those at the palace."
He didn't take a pencil, but he did hold up the official visit timetable by coming back to look at the pencils...

I assume, a plastic cup from a drinks vending machine - can't think what else it could be.
