Activating the third eye

Recently ina thread on here someone mentioned bio-energy psychotherapy or something like that so I did some research on-line and I found this one site where it said that one way to activate (or open) the third eye (chakra) is to lightly tap at the spot between your eyebrows. I tried this and what usually happens is I just get a weird fuzzy feeling at that spot. I'm not sure if this is regular or not.

A lot of books on magic mentioning opening the chakras but rarely ever say how to. Is it true you can see auras when the third eye is opened?

I highly recommend not fooling around with opening Ajna until the chakras below it are reasonably opened and developed. The Aura Vedic system is designed to be worked in order, from Muladhara up to Sahasrara. Premature opening of a chakra leads to trouble.

Well, I don't even know how to open chakras so I should be all set.

Seriously, though, what kind of trouble? I've only tried this twice now so I wouldn't say I've "fooled around with it".

Based on my experience making just that mistake in my qigong practice, what you get are energetic imbalances manifesting as psychological disturbances of various sorts. And headaches. Nasty headaches.

This has been a problem with the western tradition generally; magicians wanting to get the powers and psychic abilities and perceptions and insights that come with higher chakras, so they go directly to working on those higher chakras, without first having opened the lower chakras, particularly anahata, the heart chakra. The insights and perceptions and experiences come in, but their heart isn't developed, so they don't have enough love to deal with all of it, so they interpret the experiences as terrifying demons and visits to hells and so on. This is why there's so much demonology in the western traditions that aren't in the eastern traditions to as great a degree. The eastern mages were getting the same experiences, but they had enough love in their hearts to not interpet them as demons.

H'mm. I haven't had any headaches recently, or felt any psychic disturbances (and both times I tapped at that spot I did it for about 30 seconds) so I doubt I actually did anything serious.

Some aspects of Raja Yoga deal with the activating the chakras, as does Hatha Yoga.

It is no big secret that the initiation rituals of the Ordo Templi Orientis are designed to activate the chakras.

I'm sure there are other methods I haven't heard of....

Okay, because we have people here who have been doing this a lot longer then me, and who know their stuff better as well, what does it mean if you've been able to see auras since before you can remember? I only figured out that that's what I was seeing a few months ago, but I've been seeing them all my life.

...When will people realize that the 3rd eye you seek is nothing more than the ego...learn that and you will understand one of the greatest occult secrets...

Spyder- it means you never forgot how. Most kids are trained out of it, taught that it can't be done and it's just daydreaming. Clearly you were never effectively deprogrammed congratulations!

So, the "Outer Chruch" never successfully brainwashed me? Great! Mind you, I was trying to de-bug myself anyway, but every little bit that makes it easier helps.

As for the fuzzy feeling you mentioned, I get that just putting a finger in front of that spot, even a couple of inches away. Its pretty neat. I used to play with that a lot when I was a kid. I realized I could pass my finger in front of my forehead and actually feel it, even with my eyes closed. So naturally, I did it a lot... If you mess with it enough, you'll find you can get that feeling without sticking your finger in there. Just watch as you can very much give yourself a nasty headache if you aren't really ready to deal with it yet, as others warn.

Does anyone know where the third eye/chakra relationship originated from? I only ask as I'm doing some research into the development of ideas about chakras from their Asian origins to modern western models. The earliest reference I've found relating chakras to the so-called "third-eye" is in Woodroffe's commentary on the Sat-Cakra-Nirupana Tantra. Any pointers would be most welcome.

In ancient times (ante-deluvian, that is) sages, mages and priest-kings were well aware of the secrets of the human body and of the celestial body as well (as above, so below). They knew very well about the connections between the energy-centres within the human body and those on the macrophysical plane. [Whoever taught them, you may ask. But that´s a different story.]They were aware about that giddy-giddy little organ sitting in the middle of our foreheads, the pineal gland, symbolized by occultists as the "third eye". They stimulated the gland (by isolation from sunlight, ecstatic dancing, certain drugs, chanting & buzzing in alien languages, or, still the best, by consuming menstrual fluids with high melatonin-concentration).
According to this, remember the model of the holographic universe made by two circles overlapping, thus creating the vescia pisces, which after all, is another "Third Eye". The Matrix hath thou.

IHVH is refered to as "Pineal" in the TORAH ("His name is within me")
