I'd also like to point out that this is the best thing ever.

Hmm. I really like Peter Milligan's work to date...but I'm feeling a little shaky on this. It comes off as extremely crass in all the marketing so far...I'm going to have to hope that Marvel's blowing it into something it isn't just to snag the headlines.

I think this will be fun investigation into the nature of celebrity and the public's continued fascination with the deceased Princess of Wales, consistant with what the book has been doing all along.

I've seen some of the supposed contoversy, which oddly seems to eminate predominantly from non-British people.

As it has been pointed out there is little attention paid when President Kennedy's corpse is exhumed to appear in various comics.

Diana herself already appeared in Bryan Talbot's Heart of Empire as a mad woman soiling herself in a mental asylum and in Grant Morrison and Mark Millar's Big Dave strip (part of 2000AD's infamous summer offesive) our thuggish hero got to shag the (at that time) future queen of England.

Xorn vs Big Dave- no contest. Manchester's hardest man would win, hands down.

I had to chortle heartily when I read my copy of the Daily Mail today. As i flicked through I saw a picture I recognised with the words 'sick comics' next to it. the picture was the cover with princess di on it. how i laughed indeed.

Heres a report on the Daily Mail article and the Rich Johnston quotes.

Quite surprised that no-one has mentioned Princess Di's appearances in The Invisibles yet. I seem to remember that a monster gave her a "right royal seeing to" in issue 11 (she certainly gets around in the comicbook world). Also there was the mention of her assasination in volume 2 and Sir Miles was dreaming of it in Volume 3.

And true to form The mail shows their art at the creative quote, cutting Rich Johnston's actual quote from "reaction is about half and half, some people think it's cool, others think it's sick and tasteless." into "Richard Johnson, the editor of a comic industry website, described the stunt as 'tasteless and sick'."

But This is of course par for the course for The Mail and should surprize no-one. So refreshing to see it done so baldly. Hope it has an impact on X-statix sales.

Chubby - quite simply the reason Di in the invisibles i not mentioned is that it would require research from a busy journalist. Its far easier to take a press release and get a quote or two which can be edited as required.

Actually its quite funny to see the Daily mail poll being inundated with comic fans...

I meant in this thread, not the Daily Mail article, since the various appearances of Di in comicbooks was being discussed. My parents read the Daily Mail (as much as I hate to admit that). I wonder what they'll make of it?

In other Barbelith and X-Statix related news, a message I saw on the Mike Allred message board over at www.wfcomics.com said that a recent Wizard blurb stated that Grant Morrison was slated to write a few guest issues of X-STATIX, most likely after the whole Princess Di story arc. He and Milligan are old buddies, so this makes sense. It sounds like the sort of thing that's not officially scheduled but they'll get around to it eventually.

There have also been what I'd consider strong hints that we'll see a NEW X-MEN / X-STATIX crossover at some point...

I enjoy the odd "comic book cartoon" myself so I decided to peruse the informative article from the Daily Mail.

Marvel editor- in- chief Joe Quesada said: "Princess Diana is a mutant. Like every good superhero, she's coming back from the dead...."

Don't you wish you could come out with lines like that? Again, probably misquoting Quesada, or taking it out of context or lying. Or something. But.... I want to see lines like that all the time in daily newspapers. Don't you?

We all have to vote on that poll now - a whole generation died so you could be allowed to vote on whether a comic using Princess Diana as a mutant character should be banned. Be grateful

And while you're voting, why not take time to consider the other Daily Wail polls:

Do you want to see Tania evicted this week?
Was it cruel of Davina to talk about the size of Fed's manhood on national TV?
Do you think Hugh Grant will ever find the love of his life and settle down?

Choose carefully...
