Just got the following email from a mate:

"I need to find some upbeat techno possibly with asian influences.
Can you help? It's an emergency"

Any suggestions?

"Palmistry," by Tabla Beat Science, springs immediately to mind...

Is he looking for something like Talvin Singh and the Asian underground? I suppose that's more like drum-n-bass with Asian/Indian influences rather than techno.

D'oh! Forgot meaning of 'Aisan' in the UK. Ermm... east Aisan, more oriental.

Cool though, thanks. I'll mention those to her. Haven't heard Tabla Beat Science before, I'll see if I can kazaa 'em.

Thought of Laugh and Peace (or is it Laugh and Beats), but their music's too hard to find. Anything else anyone can think of?

Ken Ishii makes excellent techno, but there's nothing traditionally Asian about it.

Ken Ishii. But I don't think techno tends to take influences that go through to actually hearing them...

The Outcaste label is very good, but I can't remember anything specifically techno, more big beat. Some early Jeff Mills rings bells, but we're stretching my memory.

The gardening programme on Beeb2 now has the brass band version of strings of life playing. Class.
