In the sense that he initiated something called "The Common Sense Revolution" on the backs of the poor. Hospitals closed, lineups in emergency grew, people would drive 3 hours out of their way to get to a hospital, which caused numerous deaths. Cuts to environmental standards and testing resulted in the deaths of people in the town of Walkerton. His entire campaign was based around the idea that Welfare cheats were the end all be all of this province's destruction. Recently a pregnant Welfare cheat (Mike's favourite target) was placed under house arrest and was found dead weeks later from the heat. Meanwhile the amount of money that was cut to teach those welfare bums was considerably less than the cash used to mail Common Sense propaganda to each and every household and school twice a year. Children sent their Mike Harris Fun Books back to the premier demanding that he spend the money on something else like, oh, real books, extracurricular activities, or the morning meals for undrpriviliged children programs, all of which he cut drastically or phased right out. They spent more money on their campaign then any other party in history, despite making the overspending on campaigns by the opposition one of their platforms. And the incredible raises and vacation time they approved because, dammit, they deserved it.
So, yes, children died. How much of a part he played in their deaths is a matter of opinion. |
