Creative visualisation

Or the practice of visualising or imagining things that you want to happen, to make them a reality, often using verbal affirmations (“you’re on top of this situation, meme. No-one suspects you’re a clueless bullshitter”).This is about the most useful thing I’ve ever learned for “programming” myself to make things happen, yet it seems slightly peripheral to the methods of magic(k?)ians…I could be wrong..I’m still at quite an elementary stage with reading and trying-out the ceremonial stuff…
It’s also a lot easier than sigilising, as far as I can tell,,..which requires that you forget about something you want and keep a diary so that you remember to look back a few months later to see if the sigilised desire came to pass.
The visualisation thing does also seem quite difficult to apply when you’re really desperate for something to happen, but then again it can give you a pointer for feelings or attachments that you maybe need to work on and get a bit of distance from…And, in any event, the whole focus should be on trying to cultivate that state of mind where you’re interested in but not dependent on things happening…
Anyway…does anyone else find this kind of thing useful? Reflections, problems with it, etc ...?

Things that I want to happen to me usually do when I write them into my stories, but this process can take awhile.

It's my humble opinion that this is how ALL magic works. Certainly everything I do is derived from visualisation.
Why? Well, Vision is by far the most important sense we use (followed by Hearing, then touch taste and smell) and much of our brain is dedicated to it. 'Magic' and 'Imagination' are both derived from 'Image' (well, probably) because they are closely interwoven.
The verbal affirmation is extremely useful too, for the same reason- language is very important to us (and our brains) and the associations between magic and language are well known (Grammar=Grimoire etc.)

So by using visual and linguistic techniques in tandem you are effectively combining your best modes of thinking- what more effective way of focusing intent could there be?

I'm currently using a sort of negative-visualization technique, that works perfectly if I use it properly.I have to pretty much believe whatever I want will not happen, and then it does. The problem is that this system requires you to be very exact with what wouldn't happen. This is an oversimplified example, but say you want to meet someone at 2:00. What you need to do is believe that you will not meet that person at 2:00. The problem is that often I don't think about it it, and I believe I won't meet that person today. So when its 4:30 and I see them, I know it worked perfectly, I just wasn't specific enough. I don't know why this method works for me, but it does a hell of a lot better then standard visualisation.
