...well, maybe not immediately, but - all will become clear...

sitting on brighton promenade this afternoon, reading my Guardian (leftish uk broadsheet) thinking about what happened last nite.

and i'd finished the news, analysis, leafed over to the letters page - which is when the plan came together.

ok: how about this?

i know there was talk around the board a week or so ago to build some kind of 911 web page. as i remember server space and web design skillz had been freely offered. content seemed to be the only sticking factor.

i thought - what about if we built this site, filled it with a concise, sanppy, snazzy FAQ-style set of info regarding our opinion of 911, its background, and what we should be doing now. and stuff the text with hyperlinks to sources.

in one fell swoop we have our own resource page, plus a ref for others, plus a general expandable intro. while the page is being built, we continue to pass the peace pipe around chat rooms, honing tactics etc.

when the page is complete, we write letters to the press. the way i'd choose to direct mine would be along the lines of - don't feel entirely happy with the way the world's going? can't protest in the real world? feel powerless?

do it online. follow with brief summary of 'chatroom intervention' or whatever. big it up. give the addy.

then...then, who knows? maybe it'll catch on. maybe it will reconnect people to feeling they can do something.

whaddya think? a way to go? something to aim for?

Brilliant.

I missed the action, seems like - maybe getting an email list on yahoogroups to rally people might be nice, too, eh?

There's one sticking point...

getting agreement on exactly what's in it. (when have you known more than one 'lither to agree on the fine points of a political argument?)

Other than that, I think it's farqing brilliant. =)

Fantastic idea. Know nothing about the technical aspects, but am more than willing to offer content. And surely the very idea of having a RANGE of opinions (within reason, I guess) is one of the best things we can do? (Sorry... not at my most coherent right now- working nights this week & just got up to check my e-mail and 'lith while my 'net calls are free.)
Also- speaking of the Guardian, did ya read George Monbiot today? Many, I swear that guy gets cooler every time he puts pen to paper.

haven't heard from Solid-State lately... and I've been a bit bogged with some work that I slacked off on.. but that's got me infront of my computer so a chat-room could be cool...

I'm Linking to the parallel thred in the creation.

Also... in terms of free chat rooms... This is one I know of.

Still working on a World Flag concept to help pull momentium away from the mostly mindless patriotism.

can anyone offer help with server space or design?

i'm going to try and collate some B.A.S.I.C.S. - snappy, rhetorical intro; virtual protest methodology and very, very brutally concise FAQ regarding a Barbelithian take on 9/11.

what i suggest is - we have this basic FAQ, studded with hyperlinks on terms, stats, links etc. when one is activated, there's no reason there can't be multiple opinions on offer in a new window. but this way the clash of interpretations doesn't interfere with what we all agree on (obvously a draft will be submitted to the board for approval - though i don't suppose itwill be overtly linked to the Barbelith site at all).

any help at all would be good. share the workload etc - this thing won't work unless we can get a collective effort going...

As an editor, I'd be happy to edit the stuff and get it together for whomever will be the web developer. I'm also familiar with basic html. I've been writing some stuff on this whole deal that's in progress and would be glad to have an outlet for it. I could get a version of one piece by early next week (it'd be sooner but I'm moving in the next three days).

Well...

I may have some wb-space available...

while I'm an accompleshed designer, my web-building skills could use some work... And I'm hella slow as well

Still, let's chat...

I work with Dreamweaver and some other web-tools, still a bit of a novice but with some friends of mine we would love to help (though no guarantee of how fast it would go). But if you want any non-commital contributions, just ask.

A potential logo could be found here...

otherwise I'm still pushing the World as image...

Persephone wrote an excellient piece that can be found here...

you'll have to scroll down a bit, it's titled Ground Zero

So... anyone up for developing a flow chart sort of thing to start with?

i do.

like i say, we make a site that acts as a resource and a - um, y'know - kind of an important hub on the underground or something - disperate but important links bunched together like an artery.

i'm working on a brutal intro/rhetoric - and a simple set of instructions for chatroom intervention, 'how to get into stupid arguments with complete strangers...on the interweb'. hm. title might need some work.

basically: my initial idea for a site design would go a l'il something like this:

short rhetorical passage to convince visitor they need to be part of this freakin' happening. trust me: propaganda a specialty.

then, a series of snazzy sections on various issues in and around 9/11. very tightly written, the absolute minimum of fluff - because there'll be links, pop-ups scattered around the text like mines.

there should also be a directory-style page with further links, maybe again, basic commentary.

a feedback forum for people to contact us. and, i don't know - i think that's the absolute minimum to make it effective - other things can be added...

time is of the essence, so i'm going to write this stuff up as fast as i can, and post up ruff cuts here. if we could line up server space in meantime, maybe sketch basic design around contents of site - so we're ready to roll as content is produced, altered, whatever...?

oh, and PAT: i'm not sure i understand fool's symbol. it looks like a smirking eyeless death smiley. are those the twin towers on its head? a plane? just wonderin'...

ok: my self-appointed deadline to get some txt for group reconstruction...uh. monday nite? yes. monday nite.

Should be able to sort something by Monday nite also- even if it's just a couple of links.
Like the flag- like even more the World Flag concept (although, you realise, if/when a buncha fucking greys decide to invade, we're gonna seem hideously xeonopohic? Joke. )
I'll try to get some links to dump on the info thread. Unfortunately time is at a premium right now... sleep doubly so. Will work on it.
BTW- don't know their site, but New Statesman have a great Mark Thomas column this week- dunno if it's online, but try The boy Thomas on form as usual

Actually that green-blue symbol is mine. Fool posted it for me becasue I don't have an operating site.

Its a sigil. I honestly can't remeber exactly, vagueness wins through once more, but the general intention will for goodwill and calm or something like that. I made it just after 911 it was an instinctual response to what was going on.

The sigil design is constructed from english letters but now that you mention it. It does look like the twin towers and an upside down plane. That is very weird and totally unintentional.

I like the idea. Feel free to use the image. It is certainly a non-violent image. Although I would have to go into my records for more detail.
