Mad Bastard Friends

Okay, so one of my friends is a fucking mad bastard, by that I mean he consistently acts like, well, a fucking mad bastard.

Take this evening for example. First he rings me to tell me that he's been - I quote - "fucking two whores in the pub toilets". He then goes on to explain to my proto-girlfriend (they were once teenage sweethearts) that I had been "doing things to her while she slept" in my bed. Exactly what things she wouldn't say me when she rang me in tears.

Why do I put up with this shit? Admittedly he has been getting worse recently, in the past he would just bite me after a few drinks and proclaim that he loved me. And, yes, he does have a history of manic depression - tending toward mania. And, doubly yes, I am worried that he might be heading off the deep end.

But...

But...

I don't know... fucking mad bastard.

Anyone else know any?

Kinda a little different, but i had an occasionally suicidal boyfriend a while back. I was scared to finish with him, incase he finished himself.

Supposedly suicidal (boy|girl)friends don't top themselves in the end. It's an attention-getting device. There may be the odd parasuicide, but that doesn't count.

Unless they do.

Use this man's life as the basis for a film script, and deny hhim the rights. And then run away very fast.

Bop, what happened? How did you get away from the mad bastard?

Update: the loony's been on the phone feigning ignorance (at 1.30 in the morning, no less). Come to think of it, he probably genuinely believes he's done nothing wrong.

And talking of mad bastards, why are we all posting at this hour?

I can't sleep - too many thoughts pertaining to this evenings entertainments. That and the bloody student party down the road.

Don't they know this is a residential area?

I'm on EST. What's your excuse?

From my "dealing with suicidal girlfriends" experience, the most effective thing was, heartless as it sounds, to make out that you really do not give a fuck one way or the other whether they top themselves.

After getting a call from the hospital, something with a lot of sugar in it is recommended. Depending on the time of day, either a strong coffee or a whisky. This will save you from comments like "Jesus, you've gone completely white, stop twitching please".

Your friend sounds like he needs to be told "you are fucking my relationship, stop it" in no uncertain terms. Even if he doesn't understand why, if you are sufficiently clear about what he needs to do, he'll get that. If that's not enough, you need to talk to your girlfriend along the lines of "he's mental, ignore him".

EST? That's cheating.

She knows just how mental he is. They've known each other for years. He was her first love.

Isn't it sweet?

And, hopefully, he isn't fucking my relationship up, but he is, as per usual, being a right pain in the arse.

My salvation may come on monday, however. The mad bastard should have moved to London by then.

Two-pronged approach. Firstly, get onto him and say "stop this shit". This may or may not work. Secondly, even though she has prior experience, emphasise to her that he seems to be going off the deep end and talking crap.

Well, he's really gonna get a piece of my mind once he's sober.

How fucking dare he.

As for Kat, I think I've reassured her enough. She really does know him very well indeed, and she's been on the receiving end of his insane crap before, it's just that tonight he caught her at a vulnerable moment - after more than afew drinks.

Did I mention that he barks?
