I know there've been other threads on magick and parties, but this one is more specific. I have and idea and I wanted to run it by you guys first. See, I'm having a party at my knew house and I, of course, want it to be spectacular. I know there have been some concerns about evoking the god Dionysus for such events cause he'll likely turn everyone into a raving, date-raping lunatic... but what if I evoke both Apollo and Dionysus. That way my party can have an incredible musical energy and that electric energy that parties need without it going too crazy cause they'll keep each other in check. Thoughts. Warnings. Alternative suggestions. All welcome.

You could invoke Ghede. The dead love to party. They also like to eat, drink and fuck to excess, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a get together... Hang lots of skully things, play lots of Oingo Boingo, and put out the rum.

There's always Bacchus....

Isn't Bacchus just another name for Dionysos?

Another alternative might be to invoke the Horned God of the Celts instead, or one of his incarnations from later days. He has his dark side too, but he always seemed a bit more laid back to me than Dionysos.

Most gods from the Norse Pantheon know how to party. Check them out.

I dunno about trying the Horned God for a party... you might end up with everyone getting swept off by the Wild Hunt, and then where would you be? Annwm?

Hunted?

Ghede might be cool especially since he's got this whole Caribbean vide and I'm in Miami. I'm already imagining making flyers with his veve on it. Still, I'm a bit worried about inviting the Loa of death to my house, even if it is just to chill.

It might not be my place to say, but I'd excercise a degree of caution with this. At the very least you want to be checking in with Pape Ghede before the party and explaining your intentions. Chances are He'll dig the party, and if you pitch it as a celebration of the process of Life and Death, it might hit the right note. But I'd be careful to make sure He's cool with every aspect of what you're going to do, before you go with it.

Isn't invoking Ghede for a party a little bit... macabre? You could end up with a really strange twist to your party, which wouldn't necessarily be good.

I say pull out the disco lp's, get some cool shades and flares, and invoke Mr Six!

That would be one funky party.

Unless he's already booked that night, in which case he may well delegate to Big Malkie.

If Six can't make it, there's still Jack & Fanny...

I've been trying to think of a good mythic party and what caused it. Preferably one without too much fall out, death etc.

The only two things I come back to are:

the start of Lord of the Rings, (invoke gandalf with fireworks, and bilbo with smoking pipes?)

or the end of all asterix stories always had a great party (so long as they tied up the bard first). You could cermonally hide your worst CD's so they don't get played...

Actually, if you wanted to go for the kind of party which is intense and everyone bonded and learned to understand each other etc. you could do something with the archetypes: princess, athlete, brain, criminal & basket case.

go breakfast club workings...

Actually I just saw breakfast club last night sooo... I think Fanny would be a great idea any thoughts on how to invoke/invite her to the party?

Do you know that feeling at a party, that there's one or more people missing. That they're probably in the kitchen or the bathroom or something. You know they'll be back soon. Just tell people that Fanny was here and she'll be back later, probably in and out all night.

Or just work as IF fanny was one of the guests when planning: invite people who would enjoy meeting her or would get on with her. Don't invite people if they might really dislike her, or her them. Make sure she'd like at least some of the music.

I'm not sure I'd try the whole "norse gods" invocation thing, considering that the majority were either cruel sods or bloody idiots. Odin was an evil bastard if there ever was one, and possesed with a wicked sense of humour that mortals didn't nessisairily think was so funny. There was a reason him and Loki hit it off so well at the begining. Loki, of course, was a destructive, mischievious being, and even Thor, really the nicest of the lot, would be likely to trash the entire place without noticing it. I'd recomend invocing kinder, gentler gods, like the Aztec deities...

Woo! Break out the ass-bellows! Those Aztecs know how to party.

Aztec? Are you kidding me? I don't want blood on my carpet! I think I've settled on Fanny cause gods are just too, I don't know, mean. But I'm still trying to come up with a good ritual to get Fanny over here but I like the idea of acting like she's already here when the party's going. I was also thinking, instead of just inviting Fanny (I mean, nobody likes going to parties where they don't know anyone) why not invite the whole invisibles lot. This kinda ties the the invoking the invisibles thread so I should check it out... be back.

I'm of the honest opinion that it's not a party unless someone's dancing in a cloak made of phospherescent human skin while covered in blood and semen.

Eww. Never invite the Norse Gods over. Can we say "lager louts"? And you don't want Loki anywhere near your stereo. Trust me on this.

Aztec gods: Big on the blood and death. Unlikely to bring mixer.

L.F.: Good call. I like the idea of building a party round a certain character. However... do you really need the rest of the krew? LF is happy to attend parties and clubs where the rest of them aren't. As a for example, I don't necessarily see Jolly Roger fitting in at a traditional drag nite. She'd be all sullen and political.

Well, I was going to narrow it down to the five "core" cell members. But I might just leave it at Fanny.

Like I said before, I'm all about inviting the dead. Ancestors are always a welcome addition. Really though, the Loa are the originall party dieties, they're accustomed to being called in ceremonies that are, essencially, big parties. Of course, they do come with the warning label that you should get to know them before inviting them into your house as they'll want specific veves, offerings and drum beats, and that when they show up they'll do so by possessing your earthly party guests... It really becomes 'their' party if you go that route, mind you. So, probably a bit more than you're looking for here

Sorry, one of my favorite bits of historical trivial. Apparantly the Aztecs were such drinkers that they would blow alcohol into their ass with bellows so they could continue to imbibe when they couldn't drink anymore, or maybe it was to absorb the alcohol faster into the blood stream. Either way, its pretty silly, and a popular item of conversation round these parts at parties.

I want to thank Ghostwheel for suggesting our Lord Fanny as the patron saint of my party, because it was utterly fantastic. We had a whole bunch of people show up and everyone was cool and just there to have a great time. I can honestly say it was fucking awesome, like something out of a movie, and there was definitely a magickal vibe cast over the whole house. It went on til 5 in the morning and the cops never came once (we have really cool neighbors!) Thanks for all the help, guys and gals.
