in today's mercury it was reported that anti-retaliation protests will not be taking place until the day of the first American strike. It seems to us that this is an action of reluctant acceptance of the current American agenda. By waiting to speak out against American military actions that could endanger the lives of civilians and escalate the chances for worldwide violence.
It is important that the people of America understand that there are other, alternative actions our goverment could take in lieu of a multi-billion dollar military campaign which could go on for years and years, resulting only in more death.
we should take action before the first bomb drops, otherwise Americans (and, indeed, the western world) are in danger of losing civil liberties needlessly, putting money and lives into an unclear and unwinnable war, and setting the world on a course it may not be able to recover from.*
Neither politics nor media are the beginning or end of reality. I watched a million people change their minds over the course of a day. Left became right, up became down, on and on clear as crystal.
Shouldn't everyone realize that one truth we could accept as living creatures is that we all share the planet earth as a home? Here's one way of looking at things: I don't think any of us are that different from each other. Any of us could probably "play" any other type of person on this world. We could have drastically interchangable personalities if that was the 9 to 5. You are the terrorist and the victim, yourself and the news reporter. Everything that we allow to happen is a part of us.
Anyway, people coming together should be a beautiful and wonderful thing. Self sufficient hanging out with no help from the talking heads .

*this protest/action should not, in any way, condone the events of september 11. We are devastated, obviously, that so many lives have been lost. However, that does not mean that the attack was committed by crazed individuals with a vague or meaningless cause. These people knew what and why they were doing what they were doing and the American people need to understand their reasons before starting a war that no one can win. |
