Self-employment - quick question (UK Employment)

ONLY NICE THINGS

Hello, darlings. It struck me that a whole passle of us have slighty unconventional job arrangements, so one of you may have a handy answer to question the this:

If one becomes self-employed (e.g. as a sole trader), one has to alert the DSS and Inland Revenue within 3 month, so you can get tax and NI and stuff sorted out, yes? But what happens if you then get a non-self-employed job, or the busioness thing isn't working out and you want to become officially unemployed again? Is it the same process in reverse?

Legally you can hold down two jobs, even with yourself as the employer. The only thing in relation to tax that you then have to do is to declare one job the Primary Form of Employment. This means that the other one gets taxed so far up the ass that they can take the gold fillings from your front teeth but basically all you have to do is fill out the P-somethingorother and then they tax that one appropriately and the other one like its going out of fashion.

If you take the non-self-employment one as the Primary, then you need to request the proper taxation scales for the selfish one.

Fairly easy and as I understand only done by flaying your skin to make sleeping bags for gophers.
