Any tips for healing magic?

I've decided to try my hand at using magic to help heal someone. Ultimetly I'll try to design a ritual using my own methods but maybe some tips/advice could benefit my endeavour a bit.

Basically, it's for an on-line friend of mine I've been corresponding with for years now, who lives very far away from me and who has, for the last 3 years or so, been very unhealthy with a variety of strange ailments, notably insomnia that sleeping pills don't do much to help. Even the doctors he goes to still aren't sure what's wrong with him. I suggested he try that long distance reiki healing that HunterWolf suggested to me, but maybe I could add something of my own (I'm not sure if he did the reiki, he doesn't really believe in stuff like that, or magic at all).

I do have some things that he's handled, sheets of paper, CDs he's sent me, a piece of paper with his handwriting, a picture of him, I hope to incorporate all these into the ritual.

I'll probably try to get the Sandman character Morpheus involved in all this, not to mention a variety of songs with sleep themes. We shall see...

Well, my first question would be: Why Morpheus? "Sandman" Morpheus is the lord of the Dreaming, and Greek myth Morpheus is one of the gods in charge of dreams. Hypnos, on the other hand, is the God in charge of sleep (and Morpheus' daddy). He seems to be regarded as a chilled-out, gentle sort of bod. Might be more help in your task than Morpheus.

How about Jigglypuff? Or even better: Snorlax!

...and a search-engine scry threw up lots of pages on crystal therapy. Normally I'd go "Pffft! Fluffy bunnies!" but for some reason I feel that a talisman might be the way to go for your buddy.

Some stones said to aid sleep are moonstone, amethyst (also said to be good for obsessiveness and heavy drinking) and malachite. Something in my head went KERCHING! over the moonstone.

If I was yr friend, I'd try and get hold of a moonstone (not too hard, they're only semi-precious), cleanse it in running water, put it in a black velvet bag, then sleep with the bag under my pillow. But that's just me.

Maybe it's only me, but I always employ the colour green when trying to work on healing focused magic/k. Green fields of energy, green "rays," etc.. Also, with the colour green I associate a stock list of sights, sounds, textures, tastes, etc.: spearmint, pine trees, fresh cut grass, and such.

Hmm, it is also sometimes good to set up a "cycle." What I mean here is that it's good to imagine a current of (green) energy running into the person and then moving out of them--perhaps grounded into the earth or something. It's kinda' a variation of a certain Eastern meditation (can't remember more details though, sorry) where the energy going in is bright, vibrant, and positive, while the energy coming out is dull, sickly, and negative--this reinforces the idea that the energy is cleansing the illness from the person--kinda' like the incoming breath is much cleaner than an exhalation.

Hope that might help in some way...

Or for more of a traditionalist approach one would employ Mercurial forces...so perhaps you'd be better off using the JLA's Flash.

What's your understanding of the nature of disease, and of his disease in particular? What about his understanding thereof?

Frinstance, poppets with pins work well to heal if you know something about acupuncture (and can overcome the usual association of these dolls with harmful magic). You might make a poppet and "heal" it with reiki or other techniques. If he has a strictly scientific worldview which might hamper the success of magical techniques, explaining his unwellness and why he's going to get better in scientific terms, either to him or to the poppet, may help.

You might send him a houseplant with healing powers. In conjunction with visualizing a circulation of green energy, houseplants are excellent at taking in polluted energy and purifying it.

I'm used to working hands-on. If you want to know my approach, it would be the poppet. I would sew into the poppet his picture and/or handwriting sample, a small piece of moonstone and malachite, and some healing herbs which induce sleep, like lavendar and lemon balm. Then I would perform massage, energy work, and acupuncture techniques on the doll daily for a certain period or until it felt like I had succeeded. Essentially, I would treat the poppet as a patient, including explaining what my actual patient needed to do to get well, and why it would work in terms which fit his paradigm.

Ultimately it will always boil down to what the patient wants and needs. Healing magic works when the patient decides te has no more need of disease.

Note: The above was spoken from the aspect of my selves which was trained in acupuncture and projective energy chi gung. YMMV.

Thanks for the advice all, I'll tell you the end results as they occur?

Why Morpheus? I dunno, maybe cuz whenever I have trouble sleeping I imagine Morpheus spreading dust over me and I usually fall asleep shortly after. I'll give Hypnos some thought however.

I'll send your friend some good vibes -- any name (even a fictionsuit name) that I can focus on for this friend, Sypha?
