Cool! Yes, if you haven't already you should defiantly check out Jenny Everywhere, great stuff. That’s an excellent example of web published work (I take it that someone is also printing these?) and the idea of an OPEN SOURCE COMIC BOOK CHARACTER is fascinating…
Something to take note of Chris, you didn’t say if your thinking about print or web but having been publishing zines for over …ack, almost 20 years now…and working in both the north American indy/underground scene and for major US publishers, I’d highly suggest web publishing to start. Good low stress/risk environment on the publishing side, should be focusing first on the actual nuts and bolts of the medium itself. How to draw and tell a story and all that.
Once you’ve refined your art &/or story ideas and discovered you direction visa vie genre and readership you’ll be in much better position to tackle the potentially nightmarish world of large print runs. Till then you can collect the best of your web-based work from time to time in small run hand made books, exploring silkscreen printing and binding. Much more fun and potentially an interesting craft in of itself. Once you’ve had some experience with all that and have learned how to market your work, taking on a medium to large print run at a professional press and managing distribution will be a lot less daunting or difficult. |
