Okay, so most everyone else here has caught this, I'd assume. But lest anyone miss it, the Mr. Bean animated series is absolutely gorgeous. I just caught two episodes on PBS this Sunday evening. I haven't been able to check out the web site yet, but that should clue everyone in to my enthusiasm. It's beautifully rendered in a blend of early 60s retro cartoon design and lovely hyperpastel colors and incredibly intricate charicterizations. Story wise, it's Mr. Bean, perhaps a little gentler and less repulsive than Rowan Atkinson in the flesh, but very very funny. The palette and rich movement of the characters lend it a Tati-esque visual sensibility that the live-action version didn't have. If you haven't seen it, you should. |
