found this old clipping-

"FILM TEAM RESCUED IN AMAZON TELLS OF GOLD IN PRE-INCAN CITY
Guardian Monday November 10th 1997
Three members of a documentary film team trapped for a month in Peru's amazon rainforest say they have found a pre-Incan stone city and chunks of gold ore hidden for centuries under the dense jungle.
The rescued Belgian ornithologist Jean de Coninck said the city, 360 miles north of Lima, was "larger and more imposing" than the nearby pre-Incan citadel ruins of Gran Pajaten, which date back to 200BC.
He said the expedition found quantities of gold ore near the ruins. "It's a city built on slabs of stone...we have kept a record of what we found and we know the exact location of the mounds."
He and two Peruvian scientists- the ornithologist Segundo Rivadeneyra and the entomologist Mario Callegari- were found weak and dehydrated on Thursday by rescuers. Survivors say a fourth person, Marcial Huaman, was dragged away by the rain-swollen Abiseo river.
Expedition members said they lived on butterflies and a 10ft snake after their food ran out."

Next time you're feeling bored and like the world is a dull place, remember the world really is weird, and really crazy shit actually happens all the time.

Fuck that, anyone can find a lost Incan city. Did they find the flying machine shaped like a bird? We're not being told the truth here people!

I love the thought of an entomologist eating butterflies "This is the lesser speckled amazon showstopper, really rare" *Chomp* "...and a bit peppery."
Anyone else got any real life weirdness stranger than fiction to report? I feel like life is pretty dull right now, I need weirdness!

That link is great, ta unheimlich! Now I know why it made so little sense- the BBC cut the shit out of it, and never showed the two episodes where they found the cities of gold! Bastards!

'Children of the Sun' was the theme music. Something along the lines of: 'Children of the sun, dum-de dum-de dum-de-dum...' Not a patch on 'Ullyyyyyyyseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, nooneelsecandothethingsyoudo'...

Actually, the first time round they did show the entire series. The second time round, they jumped from when they have just found the alien city in the mountain to the last episode. Which of course was the time when I started watching from the first, very normal, episode. Fuckers.

IIRC.

Ulysses 31 was outstanding/stupendous/amazing. It is another excellent French/Japanese collaboration. Does anyone now if there were any other joint works from those two countries?
