New X-Men and Astrology

This is a total fluff thread. Just a warning.

I was thinking a bit recently how well the main cast of New X-Men works as signs of the Zodiac. If Grant Morrison is said to have based his JLA on the Greek Pantheon, then perhaps this isn't so far off. (Not to suggest that I believe he intentionally set the characters up this way.)

This is how I see it - I'd be interested in how the rest of you interpret this, or where you think I may have things all wrong. All of the positives/negatives that I'm citing are taken from basic Astrology site.

Fantomex - Aries

Postive traits: Adventurous and energetic, pioneering and courageous, enthusiastic and confident, dynamic and quick-witted.

Negative traits: Selfish and quick-tempered, impulsive and impatient, foolhardy and daredevil.

Emma Frost - Taurus

Positive traits: Patient and reliable, warmhearted and loving, persistent and determined.

Negative traits: Jealous and possessive, resentful and inflexible,
self-indulgent and greedy.

The Cuckoos - Gemini

Positive traits: Adaptable and versatile, communicative and witty, intellectual and eloquent, youthful and lively.

Negative traits: Nervous and tense, superficial and inconsistent,
cunning and inquisitive.

Jean Grey - Cancer

Positive traits: Emotional and loving, intuitive and imaginative, shrewd and cautious, protective and sympathetic.

Negative traits: Changeable and moody, overemotional and touchy,
clinging and unable to let go.

Beast - Leo

This one is so perfect, so much that Henry now looks like a lion!

Positive traits: Generous and warmhearted, creative and enthusiastic, broad-minded and expansive, faithful and loving.

Negative traits: Pompous and patronizing, bossy and interfering, dogmatic and intolerant.

Cyclops - Virgo

Positive traits: Modest and shy, meticulous and reliable, practical and diligent, intelligent and analytical.

Negative traits: Fussy and a worrier, overcritical and harsh,
perfectionist and conservative.

Beak - Libra

Positive traits: Diplomaitic and urbane, romantic and charming, easygoing and sociable, idealistic and peaceable.

Negative traits: Indecisive and changeable, gullible and easily infuenced, flirtatious and self-indulgent.

Wolverine - Scorpio

Positive traits: Determined and forceful, emotional and intuitive, powerful and passionate, exciting and magnetic.

Negative traits: Jealous and resentful, compulsive and obsessive, secretive and obstinate.

Xorn - Sagittarius

Positive traits: Optimistic and freedom-loving, jovial and good-humored, honest and straightforward, intellectual and philosophical.

Negative traits: Blindly optimistic and careless, irresponsible and superficial, tactless and restless.

Quentin Quire - Capricorn

Positive traits: Practical and prudent, ambitious and disciplined, patient and careful, humorous and reserved.

Negative traits: Pessimistic and fatalistic, miserly and grudging.

Charles Xavier - Aquarius

Positive traits: Friendly and humanitarian, honest and loyal, original and inventive, independent and intellectual.

Negative traits: Intractable and contrary, perverse and unpredictable,
unemotional and detached.

Angel Salvadore - Pisces

Positive traits: Imaginative and sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless and unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic.

Negative traits: Escapist and idealistic, secretive and vague, weak-willed and easily led.

heheh.. I played around with that thinking as well...

I would view EMMA as more of a Scorpio... especially with her tendancy towards manipulation especially with SEX.

While I would also see Wolverine as a Taurus what with his er... "groundedness" and nature boy qualities...

BEAST seems tooo humble to be a LEO though, and i would see him as more of a SAGITARIOUS what whith his willingness to experiment on himself.

Mr Tricks, I actually had debated on who was the Taurus and who was the Scorpio with Logan and Emma - I originally had them reversed, or as you see it. It probably could go either way, but just going on the descriptions from that website, the "self-indulgent and greedy" trait fitted Emma perfectly, but Wolverine not at all.

the "self-indulgent and greedy" trait fitted Emma perfectly

Yeah I know what U mean... it's a toss-up and could easily be relative to their Rising Signs as well...

Was also thinking of Jean as a LEO what with her Ah... fireryness and tendancy towards BIG acts... like eating a sun and all....

The attraction between Jean & Logan would be a very Leo/Scorpio thing as well as the desire to "settle-down" with a nice safe Virgo.

A Cancer would tend to NOT want to "rock the boat"

Trust me, I'm a classic Leo, and Jean Grey as written by Grant Morrison is no Leo. Pride is the central characteristic of a Leo, and that's not much of an issue with Jean. It is for Henry - he embarasses himself several times over because of his pride, but it also serves him well. Henry sometimes suffers from an inflated sense of self, and has some very big problems when his pride is wounded and his ego is deflated. Henry thrives on people needing him, and though he genuinely loves to help people, his base motivation is often to keep his sense of self-worth high.

Even with the Phoenix and her (understandable) anger towards Scott and Emma, Jean is very nurturing and gentle as written by Grant Morrison. She wants to be a caregiver to the world; her maternal instinct is a very vital part of her personality. I think that her relationship with Scott is more about her taking care of him and keeping him stable - I think that's part of why she fixed up Emma. She knew it was better for Scott to be with someone like Emma than to lose her. Jean's major flaw is that she is overemotional and clingy, and when she loses control of her emotions, that is when she is a major problem.

Well, the moon sign is as important as the star sign in a lot of ways. We got into this discussion on the Magneto list. It started as just figuring out the character's birth date, then moved into figuring out his chart based on personality, which was then extended to other characters. We had a lot of fun with it, but here's how things worked out...

Oh, Magneto fans tend to be a little slash friendly...

We figured Jean to be a Leo with a Cancer moonsign (She'd have to have a fire sign, for obvious reasons, and a water sign, both due to her empathy and her tendancy to be submerged in it...

The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign produces a well integrated personality as both bodies are placed in the signs with which they are naturally associated. The positive force of the Sun placed in Leo serves to offset any tendency toward moodiness and being too introspective, traits of the Cancer Moon, keeping you up most of the times. The Leo tendency to boast and grab the spotlight are well balanced and controlled by the modest reserve of the Moon. You have a natural warmth and sympathetic friendship, and people are attracted to you because you are such an understanding listener. You're not exactly a social butterfly, but you do enjoy good company and a good time. Friends never hesitate to confide in you because you are so dependable and trustworthy, and when there is some way you can be of help you always do. You know your worth so well that you take it for granted and don't waste time trying to impress others with it. You are realistic about life, always applying common sense to situations and striving to do the best you can do. Your feet are planted ever so solidly on the ground. Romance and love are very important to you and you'll never be very happy until you have found someone on whom you can lavish your affections. Soundness is the keynote of your nature, and everything you do seems to have a stamp of character, persistence, and the honest desire to maintain good will.

She's not the only X-Leo, though, as the consensus was that Magneto is a Leo-Capricorn (the Master of Magnetism needing an Earth sign in the mix)...

The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign makes you highly purposeful. You have a strong sense of what you expect out of life. This configuration confers a good deal of mental ability and quickness. There is a hard inner core that may keep you from being as sociable as many with the Leo Sun sign. You're not the type of person that anyone ever walks over. Your reputation, and the impression you make on others, is vitally important to you. You make every effort to make a good impression by your appearance and your demeanor. In this regard, you usually maintain a cheerful, good-natured exterior that rarely exposes this inner core of hardness and resolve. You are not exactly secretive, but subtle in disclosing your plans and objectives, and you really have no desire to be understood too well. You may become very depressed at times, but you'll never admit you have any doubt about yourself or your abilities. Your public face rarely breaks away from your upbeat mask. You have a great respect for yourself, and you expect others to respect you, as well. Success, in your view, depends heavily on building up a sound reputation for integrity and reliability. You want to be known as a person who can be trusted and relied upon. You are materially ambitious, and back this up with steady purpose and great will power.

Charles, the experts on the character agreed, is a Cancer-Aquarius

The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign produces the kind of personality that can transmit an excellent understanding of yourself to others around you. You relate well to people and are likely to have the reputation for being one who is understanding and sympathetic. Yet you have a rather objective intellect that always seems to hold a large viewpoint. Your appeal may be to large groups of people more than to individuals as your aloofness and detachment draws people to you rather than drawing you toward others. You often appear preoccupied, as though you were caught up in many thoughts at the same time. You are critical of people, but always in a well-intentioned way. You have a good deal of pride and you're not one to bare your soul to those around you. There is little that is petty about you, and you have little time for pettiness in others. You have a way of achieving power over people, and you seem to spend little time or effort making friends. Nonetheless, you are well accepted for your general concern for people. With an aristocracy of bearing, you raise people to your level, rarely stooping to theirs.

Emma is definately Aries. She's adventurous, pioneering, quick
witted, and confidant, but also selfish, and occasionally impulsive and foolhardy. And, of course, the starstone for Aries is diamond. Given her codependant relationship with Scott, I'd guess her moon sign is Libra...

The combination of your Sun and Moon signs produces contradictions in your makeup because these signs are precisely opposite one another, a full 180 degrees apart. Aries is naturally independent; the Libra Moon is sometimes very dependent. This is a difficult position presenting a problem between the emotional and mental nature. You are ambitious and eager to please people, with the sort of personality that seems to reach out to others as if you are in need of reassurance and guidance. Your nature is highly individualized, yet you are just as highly dependent on support and sympathy. The contradiction in your nature is that you value your freedom intensely, and while it would appear that your need for support could even result in you being dominated by another, this is never likely to be the case. You can ignore the feelings, opinions, and wishes of others when you get an idea in your head. The ability to concentrate on one thing for a prolonged period is very difficult for you. You can be daydreaming even when by all appearances you are
hard at work. The dramatic side of your nature will always make it hard to keep your feet planted firmly on the ground and remain totally practical.

Emma's arch rival, Tessa, also seems to be an Aries, but with Virgo as her moon sign...

The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign shows that you are very cool emotionally. A fine critical nature seems to replace a good deal of the impetuosity often associated with Aries. You are likely to have a mind that is channeled into practical matters, and you have a "no nonsense" attitude about most issues. Effeciency is all important to you. You have a driving determination to get things done, and to get them done right. You are definitely an achiever, combining your cool-headed judgment and the energy to put your thoughts into action. You may be lacking in creativity and originality, but you readily absorb knowledge and put it to use in a very efficient way. You figure things out from every angle and never overlook the smallest detail. You're hard to work for, because you're so exacting. You can be very pointed in your manner of criticizing a half-finished job or work that in any way reveals unacceptable quality. You are potentially a very fine executive if you can keep from making too many enemies with your aggressive and
critical nature. You're not a romantic or a socially outgoing
person, and you may even be something of a "lone wolf" type.

Scott was a bit harder to figure out, but channeling solar energy suggests some sort of earth and fire combination. Taurus-Leo seems to fit nicely

The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign produces a strong determined will, well defined opinions, and a very forthright, honest, and fearless personality. There is much pride tied up in your nature. You respect others, but you listen to yourself and trust your personal abilities first and foremost. Not tending to rely on your intellect alone, you depend more on your hunches, and your key to success should be your high self-esteem. Creativity and pragmatism mark your nature, giving you an excellent sense of how things should be constructed, organized, or planned. You are a good manager or boss, and people respond well to working for you. At your best you are persistent, sure and reliable. Personal confidence and pride can at times cause you to be domineering and inflexible in attitude, and you possess strong likes and dislikes. Because you are usually so steady and consistent, you rarely blow up. You can be critical, but in a fair and constructive way. Wanting things done your way, you don't like to have your action very closely monitored or scrutinized, although you are not above doing this to others. Too your few close friends, you are trustworthy, honest, and devoted. You seem to like or dislike people because of instinctive feelings about them rather than for matters you have reasoned out. This is a very fixed and stable personality, but in the early part of your life you probably had tendencies toward extremes. Throughout your life it will always be important for you to double check decisions and avoid overestimating possibilities because of confidence or pride. Behind the spirited, but pridefully impulsive qualities in your personality is a practical, solid, determined internal nature that serves you much better.

Then there's Logan. Aquarius-Taurus seems to work nicely, here

The combination of your Sun and Moon signs produces a personality that people find easy to like and admire. This is not so much for what you do as it is for what you don't do. Your never petty or small, and your appeal is to those in the higher as well as the lower rungs of society. You don't pester people with your worries and anxieties, but when others come to you, you drop everything to listen to their problems. You're interested in people, and like to be around them as an observer, but somehow maintaining a distance and not getting too involved individually. You rate people not on their position or rank, but simply on whether they interest you or not. You have a certain self-sufficiency about you, and you never feel that you have to put on airs to impress anyone. You have all it takes to be executive, except the desire that would be required. You seem to be devoid of any domineering or missionary spirit, willing to "live and let live." This combination blends the originality and independence of Aquarius, with the determination and powerful will of Taurus. These two fixed signs together give a will that is so strong that it may become obstinate and intransigent. Happiness can depend on assuring peacefulness and harmony in environment or home life, and in respect to human relationships. You need to be deeply interested in people.

Now, the question is, who matches with who? Let's try Jean and Scott... Leo and Taurus

Venus and the Sun make a good combination, especially when each understands the other's faults. Excellent physical qualities and great sex appeal are there for both partners. Magnanimous Leo is just what the doctor ordered for the Taurean's love of the finer things in life. As long as the Taurus restrains jealousy and lets the Leo show off a bit all will go well with this combination.

Taurus will supply the attention that leo requires but will expect it to be returned. Leo loves to dominate and eventually taurus being strong willed but more patient, will raise the sword when their needs are not being met. A strong attraction physically and emotionally but perhaps too many obstacles to hurdle.

Maybe she'd do better with Logan?

This pair of the sun and Uranus is usually a good one. Leo likes surprise and Aquarius will be happy to supply it. Both signs are better when doing things for others. Leo loves the world and Aquarius loves humanity. This makes for an excellent combination for a partnership that deals with or caters to the public. Each have a mutual understanding of the other when it comes to intimate matters, needs and desires. There is never a dull moment in their lives as Aquarius holds many surprises for Leo.

While these two will be attracted to one another, they are zodiac opposite which means that it can be as bad as it is good and usually is.

Hmm, maybe a fellow Leo would be good. If Magneto can transcend his issues, how would this work?...

This should prove to be a compatible combination, but it is not always true. Leo's are positive people and love to be the center of attraction. They want to be the head of their social groups. The two are constantly competing for leadership, unhappy results can result from this. The only hope for a successful partnership is for the female to be content to rule the home and the male to shine in the business and social world.

Two positive and strong willed individuals. Two kings in the same country. This country isn't big enough for the both of you and you both know it. Trouble is, you both are so much in love with love that you may ignore the reality.

Yeah, definate problems, there. Hmm, well, let's see how her, and Magnus's, complex relationships with Charles work, and if there's romantic sparks in either case...

Usually this is a good combination, since the Moon (Cancer) reflects the light of the Sun (Leo). There is a lot to be said for these two, especially if Cancer will be happy reflecting the admirable Leonian personality. Leo's huge heart will soon forgive the moody outbursts that Cancer shows from time to time and which result from the strong influence of the Moon, Cancer's ruling planet. Cancer more than any other sign, responds to the moon's aspects as it moves swiftly through the zodiac.

Cancer will feel a bit more enthused around Leo and will probably let Leo run things or at least let them think they are in charge and hey! what's the difference. Leo will appreciate cancer's attention and as long as cancer can forget that they feel neglected at times when Leo is out running the world, there is a chance this could work.

OK, better. But the perfect match... Who do we have left? Let's try an Aries...

This is usually a great combination, with both sides being emotional in their make up, Leo will lionize an Arien mate. This is particularly true if Aries will allow Leo to hold the center of the floor on occasions. Sharing the limelight is important on Leo's part however, as Aries will feel the need to be on stage once in a while as well.

In the lion's den the impetuous Aries lover will find a welcome home. Their sex life could be legendary and infidelity kept to a minimum, or eliminated all together. This is because they will probably find what they want from each other, and not have a physical compulsion to stray. Leo admires the aggressive tendencies of fiery contemporaries. This is exactly what Ariens are, making this an ideal union.

Ah, THERE we go. So THAT'S why Tessa's so determined to avoid Jean. She's in love. Awww... But Jean's married! The angst! The heartbreak!

Not that that stopped our other Aries, so how do Scott and Emma work out?

This fantastic match should make a winning combination. The Taurean nature is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, this is what an Arien always seeks in a mate. Taurus appreciates Aries outward nature and Aries appreciates Taurus"s earthy nature; there would be far too many differences to expect it to last. What they appreciate about one another is also what they would dislike over time. Can be sexually dynamic but there's not much hope for anything more.

Though the Taurus half of this relationship, being slow moving, may find the going a bit hectic , excitement may help to stimulate the friendship. Ariens should omit temperamental outbursts, for Taurus are not highly emotional on the surface, they can become obstinate and ferocious as a bull when it sees red.

If ever a relationship was bound to make it in the long haul, this is it. Should a breakup occur with these two, the Taurean may come surprisingly to life, giving fiery Aries a run for their money! This is not likely with these two however, as most matches of these are likened to "a match made in Heaven".

Though Aries is an impatient, energetic sign, rather domineering , Taurus should not have any difficulty finding compatibility with this sign. The slower-moving Taurus may find the going a bit hectic, but the excitement nay help stimulate courtship since Taurus is a highly emotional sign, though very obstinate when dictated to. The Taurean, ruled by Venus, goddess of love will usually show the Mars-ruled Aries the error of his ways when they meet on a common level.

So, they actually DO work. But Emma works with Jean, too. Maybe a compromise is in order?

Professor X has got to be Cancerian, he's just got to be! My world will fall apart if he's not!

Emma Frost I'd say Gemini - flighty, fickle, capricious, whimsical but with a very sharp tongue. Kristin Scott-Thomas in a X-shaped basque.

Jean Grey I'd say Scorpio, because of the whole cool on the surface, passionate and dark and a bit scary underneath.

Cyclops definitely Virgo. Uptight but somehow honourable and reliable. But still uptight.

Um, I can't be bothered thinking this through any more. I'm hungry. Peace brothers and sisters.

I was thinking more Russel Simmons...

Prof X is ridiculously Aquarian. Xorn is definitely Sagittarian. Scott could be either Taurus or Virgo, And I'm thinking Jean's a Cancer/Leo cusp kid.
