The group of gay men are being charged with sexual immorality and denigrating Islam.

Read this today in the New York Times, where the commentary came with a photograph ( courtesy of Reuters) of the men.

The photo pictured the men being paraded in pairs, one pair behind the other in between two lines of policemen. They either had their heads covered or were covering them.

For being gay? It's icredulous.

When are we going to have a U.N conference on gay rights? An issue which is equally as important as rascism.

Egypt is one of the 189 members of the U.N.

Egypt and Syria have been original members of the U.N. since October 24 1945. Following a plebicite on 21st Feb 1958 the United Arab Republic was established by a union between Egypt and Syria and they acted as a single memeber of the United Nations. On 13th of October 1961 Syria resumed its status as an independent State and had separate membership in the United Nations. On September 2 1971 the United Arab Republic changed it's name to Egypt and acted as a separate State. Consequently Egypt is and has been from the start a member of the U.N.
