So you've all done The Wall and Alice in Wonderland, but how about:

Willy Wonka
The Fifth Element
Being John Malkovich
Brain Candy
Icky Flix (Residents video)
The Song Remains the Same

Well Ragel, if you can handle it, Harmony Korine's Gummo. Even if you've seen it before, tripping gives it more coherence.
Larry Clarks Teenage Caveman is also fun but it has to be your first time seeing it.
Of course these may be a little harsh.
Oh, hippies will try to advise Pink Floyd’s The Wall, wave some soap at them and they'll bugger off.
Humm, I'll come back to this later.

I did The Cell a few months ago. Pretty intense.

Last time I saw Gummo I was in Middle School. After reading your reply I understand what that movie was all about. Ever tried 12 Monkeys? Strange Days? Blade Runner? We could have some fun with those hippies...

The Neverending Story is sweet, as is Labrynth. Moulin Rogue was sweet. Thinking about trying Donnie Darko next.

Of course anything anime is beautiful...

Haven't seen Teenage Caveman yet. I assume Kids would be to Gummo as Giger would be to this dude. Know when Ken Park's coming out?

I always find utterly awful movies hilarious whilst tripping, some made for TV thing. The low quality really shines.

The Natural Way

I watched Gilliam's Jabberwocky round Fraely Gimbert's when I was loaded on Mushrooms. It really suited the trip - all dirty and earthy. Really organic and autumnal.

I once subjected my trip buddies to Rat Pfink a Boo Boo with mixed results.

The Monkees' Head was jolly.

It's a good measure of the intensity of the trip your on to watch any old mundane film/tv and see what happens.

In my experience stuff that is intentionally trippy/weird doesn't always work on a trip.

Noggin the Nog is perfect come-down viewing.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

dAb- nah on the FWWM thing. It's good on acid, yeah, but for some strange reason I always find Lynch movies work best when you're ripped to the tits on cough syrup. True, but I don't know why.

I'd recommend Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain". It's got everything. Jesus, midgets, a re-enactment of the conquest of Mexico whose cast consists entirely of toads, a menorah-shaped handgun... it's just ace. Even without acid it's a headfuck. With, it's positively dangerous.

And whoever said The Monkees' "Head"- fuck yeah.

Although for general acid-viewing, nothing beats a night of infomercials alternated with old episodes of "Bakersfield PD".

Oh, but avoid the otherwise wonderful "Dougal and the Blue Cat". That shit with the masks is deeply scary.

Oh piffle...if you want the movies for tripping, you have to go to either the old favorite: Yellow Submarine

ANY concert film of a band you like works well too. Personally, I have found that any cartoon works just fine for me. Especially the Tex Avery MGM ones like "Red Hot Riding Hood."

Dark Star, Brazil, Excalibur, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the Life of Brian.

Pirate Ven Will Teach You To Lambada (The Forbidden Dance)
21:59 / 31.05.03
Spirited Away.
The Adventures of Baron Munchaussen(sp).
2001.
And End of Evangelion. It probably doesn't matter if you're actually hallucinating for those last two, though.

There can be only 2001

Well, despite the fact that you're wasting your life by watching films while participating in such a sublime act:
Brazil
It's a Wonderful Life (see it in colour! just imagine that crying with happiness when coming down...)
Leningrad Cowboys...

I'm probably not very well qualified for this discussion, but I just finished watching the Animatrix and I think it would make a very good canidate. Better, than either of the movies, though that's not saying a whole lot.

There's this 1953 classic called the 5000 Fingers of Dr T - it is a must-see whether or not you have drugs. It's a live-action Dr. Seuss story; the fist user comment on IMDB calls it "Busby Berkely On Acid" and ze's right. The sets have the warped perspectives, lack of 90 degree angles, and amazing colors that you see in the illustrations of Seuss's books; the plot has life&death intensity; the acting is completely over the top and reads as high camp in this jaded age...

Did I mention it's a musical?

I think it might not be the best acid flick, seems more 'shroom-friendly to me. Personally, I want to see it on whatever they were on when they wrote it!

Once upon birthday we watched a loop of:
Santa Sangre
The Tin Drum
Tetsuo the Iron Man
with clips of silent horror films

all of this inbetween midnight rounds of croquet

favorite coming down films:
Valley of the Gwangi
Casino Royale
Taxi Driver

I haven't tried but would think that 5000 fingers of Dr. T, Gummo, or
Lenningrad Cowboys would work.

long live the new flesh

Cop Killer

I try not to watch movies when I'm tripping, because then I cease to move, really, at all, except for breathing and get completely sucked in, and the movie that does that to me more than anything is Planet of the Apes, and I really don't know why, The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly does that to me too. But still, I think the best thing ever to watch while on hallucinagenics is Three's Company, because then it fucking rules (not like it doesn't fucking rule in the first place, it's just that acid or shrooms makes those clothes and interior decorating of the seventies make sense somehow), and you will realize the true comical genius of the show (actually, the same thing can be said of anything you watch while tripping, except for Cops, because there's no way I can watch that tripping, the people just creep me out too much for that).

Never, ever take drugs while in control of a video machine. What do they teach you at school these days? Christ.

Jeunet & Caro's 'The City of Lost Children'. For added intensity, wear a kilt and engage in furtive cinema sex with a similarly easy-access friend.

Wayne's World 2. Just try not to get lost finding your way out of the cinema at the end. Because someone's moved all the exits....

If you must watch a film while taking LSD, though, I insist it has to be Skidoo

Ganesh, cinema sex is so not a good idea. I will never forget drunkenly stumbling into some wanky war movie in the Cameo with an, er, casual acquaintance and getting into some serious groping action only to discover when the lights came up that I'd been sitting next to my GCSE art teacher all along...

You should have said it was an art installation, Tyrone. You'd have got an A+.

the first time i dropped acid, i watched Top Gun in a friend's room. despite the obvious awful right-wingness of it, that movie has weird nostalgia value for me since i was a little ten-year-old spawn of pro-military Republicans when it came out, and it made me want to fly fighter jets.

though i didn't know it yet, i tend to regress really badly on acid. so, long story short, the acid started kicking in about halfway through, and i got sucked into the weird nostalgia zone where i felt like i was ten again, completely captivated the flying scenes to the point where i completely forgot that there was a world outside the little box, and, well, i was in a dorm room, which is kind of easy to mistake for military barracks and, well, when i left the room, i had a moment where i was really disappointed to find myself in a hallway in Massachusetts instead of on the tarmac in California.

but anyway...

i heartily second many of the choices here, but i can't believe no one's mentioned The Nightmare Before Christmas yet. i can't recommend it enough. i was tripping the first time i saw it, and the moment i went outside afterwards, it started snowing and i almost exploded.

i've never tried either of these myself, but i think very brave souls may want to try Apocalypse Now or (God help you) Jacob's Ladder.

For fun i recomend The Big Lebowski ('I Just Dropped In...')
For fear i recomend Das Boot (ping...Ping...PIng...PINg...PING...)
And for a bit of both, Dark Crystal, such soft cuddley chilled out Mystics, so dark are the skethy Skeksis.

The Natural Way

I think you mean 'Sklensis'.

I suggest Suspiria.
(Disclaimer: I have never watched Suspiria on Acid and probably never will but I imagine that the headfuck would be fun, even if just for the soundtrack)
