Here's how it works, for those who missed the first round:

Larry records a track onto a blank tape

He sends it to Delores.

Delores records a second track.

She sends it to Butch.

Butch adds track 3 ...AND SO ON until the tape is full, at which point copies are made and distributed to all participants. Somehow.

Soooo, we need a chain. Who's in? Anyone who can record a track onto a tape is welcome.

If you want to be on the list, please send me a private message. I'll update the list below as and when names arrive.

Note: This is a completely fresh start, so please let me know even if you were on the original list. I haven't assumed that anyone who did it the first time round will want to do it again.

Y'know, it might be just as effective, or more so, to have everyone who's interested just upload an mp3 to a central FTP server somewhere. I can probably provide the server. It'd save on postage, anyway. Then folks could just download the songs and burn to CD. Technology's a wonderful think, y'know.

Oooooo - that is SUCH a fine offer.

In a couple weeks, I'd be set up to convert taped submissions to MP3s. Not yet (just moved) but soon.

Hmmm, that's an excellent idea, and a generous offer, but it limits the participants to those who can upload and download big files. I only have net access at work myself, and would feel a bit dodgy about sending big lumps up and down the pipes from here. Also, I like the idea of sending a physical tape all over the place, gives it an added dimension of something-or-other.

But it would make a cool project for you guys who can do all that stuff. Another thread, maybe?

And I'm in for this one too. Not up for the MP3 idea, but possibly if everyone involves has access to a CD-burner we agree to do a mix-CD instead of tape? Though I'm okay with either.

and if it's sounds "tooooo late", excuse me for it, but...waiting for the tape to be finished (i mean, one of the original ones), i did a copy of it before sending it.
maybe we could put it in the middle of your new list, and with it, getting more people on it ? or does it sounds bad ?

I'm in for the tape or Cd, if you'll have me. Do we put in any tracks we fancy, or is there a theme going on?

I *do* have access to a Cd burner, but I have to say that I prefer tapes. It's just the way you can't dwell on one song with a tape (or you can, but not without difficulty).

No theme, just follow the previous track with one that you think runs well with the flow of the tape up to that point.

I agree with Randy about the old tape (and about the fact that you rock) - I say send it to the next person after Jack on the original list (the next one that's still around, that is). Any posts relating to that tape can then go on the original thread. Could you let me know who you end up sending the tape to, please? Then I can update the list.

At least two people are not up for the CD, so I say we stick with the tape.

That's a damn fine idea. We might want to come back to that - and what grant said earlier - when we're working out how to distribute the thing.

List Order

It's been suggested that we could sort it so that people send to the nearest 'lither (ie one in the same country) to save on postage. Any strong feelings about this? I know we discussed it with the previous tapes and decided not to bother, but it's worth bearing in mind that it could save time as well, what with each transatlantic post taking up to 5 days. Obviously the sooner we make a decision on this, the sooner we can kick off, so if I don't hear any strong arguments in either direction over the next couple of days, I'll make an executive decision and RELEASE THE MONKEYS.
