Okay Barbelithers,

In two weeks I'm moving to London from the states and after a quick jaunt through the Head Shop, I am reminded why I must meet you all.

I'll be in London and I see that a meet has already been suggested for the second week of June. I'm due to arrive on the 12th, so the weekend of the 13-14 would be perfect. Picnic, pub, you all name it and I'll be there with bells on.

As I said there will probably be a multiplicity of welcome mononoke events in ol' london town - i'll be up for giving you a bit of the sight seeing/pubcrawl if you are up for it. and as i said you can now visit the promised land of the JC and the princess louise...

Of course, I'm *bored* of the Princess Louise but I'm just trying to sound blaze. Mononoke it is fantastic that you are coming to Londontown and believe me I know your excitement. I am ever so slightly busy with a few classes I'm taking and teaching ending on the 13th/14th but, never too busy for a pint. You're staying in Greenwich, eh? How do you feel about coming down to and getting back from central London? I suppose we could go someplace southish if you like. Also if you have any questions about being an American coming here feel free to email me.

Damn, I'll be in Manchester that weekend. And in Maine this weekend so I can't make it to Paleface's thing either. Wah, I have no luck with parties!

alas
02:54 / 30.05.03
ummm... I'll be in london town on the 16th/17th on way to Berlin. Would love to meet folks too, and don't mean to steal mononoke's show, but perhaps could meet folks for something less spectacular at that time?

Ariadne
06:20 / 30.05.03
Ooh yes, be good to see you, alas! The 16th/17th would be fine.

Anyone fancy doing 'coffee - market - drinks - bagel - drinks' around Brick Lane that Sunday morning?

i mean the 15th/16th, leaving 17th morning.

Breakfast might work but feels a little early since I'll just be getting into town. Hate to be boring but a pub meet that Sun evening or Monday eve? Or a picnic that Sunday afternoon?

very excited. but wish that I were in Amsterdam right now.

sunday is good for me as well. on friday i have to sort out my blue card and i think i'll be starting my temporary part-time job on monday (not sure yet, though).

and i am formally accepting sleaze's offer of a guided tour of the city leading up to pub-meet/picnic. i will email you soon.

Cherry-i tried to email you but the letter just bounced back...do you have another address? would you sent it to me?

As far as I can work out off the top of my head, I'm off work that weekend.

hurrah, Stoatie. I hope that we can indeed work this out. (my clan is going to Germany and Poland after this, so if anyone has any advice about traveling there, it would be welcome.) If it's warm, a picnic in some undisclosed London park location would be wunderbar.

Stop all these silly plans!
On Sunday the 15th there is Stoke Fest which is a new watery version
of the old world famous Stoke Newington street festival. I cannot
imagine a better meeting place/event. It's in Clissold Park, Church
Street, N16 and v. close to me and Stoatie. I think it is scheduled
from 12-6. I imagine we will be hosting an after festival session on
our roof terrace. What do you think?

sleazenation
07:55 / 02.06.03
As lovely as Stokey is especially at the time of the festival I think that somewhere a little more central and accessible is probably a good idea - having said that this is mononoke and alas' collective parties...

What's Stoke Fest?

All I can find online is promotional information for businesses who want to get involved.

Lilly Nowhere Late
05:43 / 03.06.03
Promom stuff for businesses? That might be because I am a business.
Did I even put a link? O nevermind.

Stoke Fest is a day in the park with loads of local restauranteurs,
bars, pubs, shops, muscicians, aritists, etc. etc. showing off their
wares in an effort to sort of celebrate Stoke Newington. Its the usual
sort of neighbourhood block party thingamagig, only with a bit of
weirdness cos Stokey is a little weird.

And its easier to get to than you might imagine. Best way I can think
of is route 73 all the way from Centerpoint to Clissold Park, but one
can always tube to Islington/highbury and take the 393 for 5 minutes
to Clissold Park. There are other ways as well.

Do let me know if anyone is interested in the after party.

i am obsessed with street fairs and rooftops and have been corresponding with lilly so vote 'yes' for stokey. it may be at the other end of the city, but i am not crossing an ocean to be thwarted by a long tube/bus ride!

Lilly Nowhere Late
22:58 / 08.06.03
Indeed I think you will find Stoke Newington less far away than some
might make it sound. Why I can see the whole of the west end from my
office window right now.
Anyone else coming?

alas
00:30 / 09.06.03
i am interested in stoking, methinks. the only thing is that my schedule might be a bit messy that day--I just need to sort some things out. what I'll need is a clear sense of times--when does it start stop and how will i find all the barbeloids in the crowd? will someone wear a funny hat?

Cherry Bomb
07:35 / 09.06.03
Just wondering is there an actual plan/time/venue etc.?

Cherry Bomb
07:58 / 09.06.03
Also re the Stoke Newington thing: sounds great, but is the best way to get to know folks you're crossing the pond for to wander around a street fair with them? Mayhaps. But might I suggest:

a): A meet-up at a pub or coffeeshop and THEN the traipsing around Stoke Newington

or

b): A meet-up the day prior followed by hot Stoke Newington action the next day.

Thoughts?

Feh. You lobby for months to have a meet out east and it takes an american to convince everyone. Sounds good to me though...

Mono
22:47 / 09.06.03
I think that my Saturday may be booked so Cherry's option 'a' is best for me. Just name the place and give specific directions and I'll be there...and i'l definitely in for lilly's fancy terrace party.

Lilly Nowhere Late
04:11 / 10.06.03
The festival is from 12pm til 6 so I would imagine before noon is a
weird long shot as for meeting out in public. I shall speak to
Stoatie today and arrange a plan for a place to meet in Stokey midday
which will be convenient as poss and then we shall play from there.
O, and my fancy terrace party will not be too fancy. Its just a roof
terrace and it shall be bring/get yer own!
Anyone who wants to meet at mine before wandering up to the park is
welcome, just let me know. Maybe that is the best thing to do anyhow?
PM me

Is there an alternative in case of rain? Like a pub or cafe or something? I may just be able to make this one -- depends on funds since I am frantically squirreling away any spare cash I have at the moment, but it would be nice to see alas again (I just found photos from the last time you were here, alas!) -- and to meet mononoke, of course.

so sweet kook...

i am leaving the american empire early tomorow morning and don't know what my internet access will be like after that. i'll be in touch with lilly though and hope to see as many 'lithers on sunday as can make it.

Questions:

Is this happening?
When? Where? What time?
Where shall we meet?
Is there a sundown meeting?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Hope you are having/have had a lovely trip across the pond mononoke!

i want to see you ALL this weekend (with bells on)

Damn! I'll be in London 16th-18th (Mon-Wed). In the event Space Station Whiskey succumbs to the Sicilian Menace, maybe the departed souls might want to hoist pints with one hand while digging daggers out of our backs with the other...the end is near--Whiskey Priestess is starting to go Tyneside on us.

Giz a call after 4pm Monday at 0207 241 2118 (or ping Stoatie), or SMS me at +31 6 5231 7354!

Sorry to have sort of dropped out of all that arrangement!
I got totally interupted with real life and a sick child. All is well
now.
As for Sunday---If anyone is coming to Stoke Fest still, do ring
me-07870 269 494, and we shall meet up. There is still going to be a
small gathering at my house near Stoke Fest post Fest, so anyone
needing to be gathered later can ring about that as well. The fest
thing is starting at 12pm and ends at 6. I will be kicking people
gently off my roof about 11pm or so. I think all the pubs along
Church Street between the park and my house are having nice barbies
and so forth as well and as its Stoke Newington it certainly caters to
veggies. Anyhow, ring me or text me if you want meeting info.
