Well, yes and no. There was a kind of sacerdotal thread running through Farscape - most obviously in the characters of Stark and Zha'an- and at times this led to some pretty bad one-offs - often involving wizards. However, the mysticism of the characters was pretty constantly challenged and undermined. The Ancients in Farscape are pretty nebulous, and their aim - to be left alone, essentially - often leads them to behave in fairly unenlightened ways. In the Peacekeeper Wars, there is a strong thread of piety - the quasi-mystical Peacemakers, of course, and Jool having retreated from the world. However, Jool's retreat from the world fails, and the Peacemakers turn out to be a useless red herring, pursued only because Crichton is desperate to try to avoid taking a side and using wormhole technology effectively to cause genocide. I'd want to rewatch the mini-series to see if it's any cop, mind. It seemed busy but badly paced on first viewing, but there was a fair bit of fun to be had. |
