when i saw Dan the Automator live, he basically just spun a really kick-ass hip-hop set. nothing really in the way of turntable wizardry or anything like that, but a very well-chosen set of tracks that showed a real grasp of both current and older (like, late-80s-early-90s older, e.g. Black Sheep) tracks, with a few of his own tracks from various projects. it was just like a more-or-less regular set at a club, but there was just a real depth to it, a really solid understanding of how to construct a good DJ set.
i would imagine Prince Paul would be similar. |
