What made me laugh (albeit in a bleak and sardonic way) was the way the BBC's security correspondent said
"It is not going to stop a determined attacker with really subtle carefully worked out plans, but it is certainly going to deter the casual bomber.

But fuck, wouldn't ya know? There were concrete blocks in the way, and it suddenly seemed like too much effort.
