As part of my current Comic Book Magic experiment, I'm planning on sticking a false thread in the Magick forum, which takes the form of a discussion of the last two 'issues'(months) of the imaginary, Morrison-written comic I'm currently imagining my life as. To do this I intend to create one or two fake fiction suits who will function as critics, theorybitching about the storyline and summing up the events for the benefit of real people on the board (who will also be able to comment, if they so wish).
The intention behind this fake thread is not so much to wankle on about how weird my life's been since starting the experiment (though obviously that will come up), but rather to add extra strength to the invocation, by creating a level of reality on which the imaginary comic becomes slightly more real.
In terms of ethics: the fake ficsuits will do nothing more than comment in the imaginary comic thread. It will be made absolutely clear that they only exist conceptually, and are not to be taken as real people. This will be noted in their profiles.
Any individuals not in the public domain will be identified by aliases, which will have no connection to their real names (i.e. someone called John will not simply have their name changed to James or Jonathan, but something totally unconnected, like Philip). Figures in the public domain (i.e. poets I've done gigs or projects with, and am therefore on record as being associated with) will have their real names used, BUT! nothing will be revealed about them which violates their privacy. Any magickal entities encountered during the process will be named, as they will be taken to exist in the public domain.
I think these arrangements will allow me to go about doing this in an ethically watertight manner, but if there's anything anyone can point out which makes this rather a bad idea, such as this being against board policy, please point it out below. I'm extremely motivated to ensure that this experiment stays within carefully regulated parameters. |
