Talk of the Nexus and the Invisibles List in another thread got me hankering for some nostalgia...

Cue series of talking heads for never-to-be-seen on Channel 4 I love the Nexus

And if Twig the Wonder Kid is around, come back.

*contented sigh*

Them were the days - before I swapped an 'a' for the concept of on-topicness...

Why do you have 'operative' beside your name, while Jack Fear has 'Myrmidon'? ...just because that's always how I pictured him... you know...

I think it reflected number of posts - and, at that time, he'd posted more than me. The glittering wonder that was the Supercollective came later...

Eh? Call me stupid, but is that not just orange barbelith?

Erm, yeah. The Nexus is a distant ancestor of today's Barbelith, soon to be dramatised in a lush, BBC fx spectactular, 'Walking With Myrmidons'.

But underneath, we had a fear of flying, of getting old, a fear of slowly dying. We took our chance like we were dancing our last dance...

Ganesh: "Myrmidon" was the moderator designation on the old Nexus. I was moderating the Library and Market fora.

We all started off as Agents, then preogressed to Operative, while Tom was the Archon.

Aah, memories.

So how old is 'Barbelith', if one takes into account its previous incarnations?

Can we get that page deleted? Every post has me sounding like a twat... much like now, but a younger twat.

I have the opposite problem. My posts then were lithe, slinky, snappy. Now they have the textual equivalent of a big flabby hairy gut.

I don't wantt o bring anyone down, but what's the point of the Invisibles if we don't do anything.

When I met Grant, he was really pushing the idea of the Invisibles as a catalyst to get people up off their couch and out doing something. I'm not sure if his vision quite matches reality.

It's one thing to wonder which 70s TV show is represented in panel 3 of issue 12 V3, and quite another to understand it as a whole and try to go out and perpetrate some 'ontological terrorism' of your own.

I see what you mean, Rakehell.

So, who can I pretend to have been who isn't around anymore?

Try that Tannhauser. What a spiky young man.

Whereas I shall pretend to be Citizen Smith, which I actually was. Never set the world on fire, I'm afraid. Only logged on about once a month. Before the Nexus got its claws in...

Boss - !)

It improved after we got Christina Ricci to pose for the homepage. I still can't believe she agreed to that.

four years or so by my reckoning. Maybe more like five, I dunno.

what does everyone else think? do we have an offiial date or anything?

And I sympathise with rakehell in that, after a few minutes perusal, I can't quite figure out whether I was deliberately assuming the persona of a semi-illiterate Kevin Smith character, or whether I just.. was one.

I have a nasty feeling that if I turned up on the board like that now (if you see what I mean) I'd immediately get torn apart or ignored and never come back..

Just been re-reading those Joe Annis / Rex the Wonder Dog sacrificing threads .. such japes. I wonder what ian jones is up to these days..

What about RAINKING? What the fuck's he up to and is it powerful? I should certainly hope so.

Don't feel half as embarassed reading that old stuff as I thought I might. There's some good insights in there - I definitely had a better hold on the Invisibles than I do now. But, then again, I was too stoned and mad back then. that's 'MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAD', in case you were wondering.

I was pretty incomprehensible. I imagine I still am. Ho hum.

Weird - the first thread in there brought back memories of one of my oddest evenings. I went to see Fight Club *alone*.

And when I got out of the (nearly empty) theater, there was smoke *everywhere*.

And I realized that a great deal of my socializing took place online, where no one would necessarily know if I died in a car crash.

Weird.
