When you have elders, youngin's, straights, queers, squares, freaks, friends, lovers, haters, players and family all under one roof, what do you offer them in the way of structured social interaction?

If all goes well, there will be no need for the help given, as my capacity as host will provide sufficiently dazzling atmosphere and entertainment to the gathered hoards. If not, I'd appreciate suggestions on across-the-board play that can easily be thrown together and incorporated into the dynamic of any rollickin' soiree.

Tucks.

Pass the parcel with tacky and luminous gifts inside that make noise. You have to be miserable not to like that kind of thing- like paper hats at christmas time.

truth or dare jenga, all the way. they make a 'truth or dare' version (surprisingly, the questions and dares aren't lame), or you can write on the blocks w/pencil.

Anything except the destructive, omega-level family destroying force that is PICTIONARY! Opening that box is like wrenching open the Ark of the Covenant!
"Avert your eyes! Don't look at the rules!"

The other Rizla game... Write names on Rizla, stick him to people's heads, and make them all play Guess Who with yes/no questions. At gunpoint.

Pass the icecube. Although it's less good if there are parents or wildly ugly people present.

Charades. Or consequences (but you'd have to split people up into groups for that... not so good).

The Rizla game is good too (though you could do it with post-its for those of sensibility).

Great Dalmuti is a lot of fun (really) and scales nicely up to about 10 players. Silly hats (at least four) are REQUIRED!

"Make Up Your Own Rules" Pictionary or Scrabble quickly disolves into hilarity provided there are no rules-lawyers in the group. With penalties and handicaps like "draw with rour off hand" for Pictionary or "speed definition" when sombody plays "squant" in Scrabble.

Invite Drew Carey over and have him run a few epsiodes of "Whose Line Is It Anyway."

Lord knows the man needs a job.

Trivial Pursuit if you have a witty and talkative group, Texas Holdem if you don't.

Ahhh Fireball island makes the rounds durring my GF's family gathering.

Charades is pretty classic and rules can be very flexible. Teams, no teams, draw from a hat, 2 minute time limits etc. easier than pictionary as you'll only need scraps of paper to write on and a watch for timing.

TELEPHONE message can be pretty funny when kids and old folks are involved.

"I Spy" is also pretty easy as you don't really need anything to play.

I tend to keep a pad of MAD LIBS around for these sorts of occasions. I'm sure with a little effort you can create your own.

I was raised on Dominos, but you need a table and y'know... dominos.
