Queer Comics

I've had the urge to dive into a new graphic novel, lately, especially one with a queer theme. I have two in mind, radically different comics, and I would appreciate any other suggestions [and discussion] of queer comics.

The two I have in mind are Stuck Rubber Baby by Howard Cruse and Enigma, by Peter Milligan. I've heard great things about both, and I'm leaning toward Enigma, right now.

Overall, gay/homosexual themes in recent comics have kind of been a let-down. Especially if you consider Marvel's Rawhide Kid and the cancellation of Vertigo's Codename: Knockout [which was hardly great literature, but it was a fun read with interesting charcters.]

SequentialTart.com just ran an article on the difference between gay writers and straight writers handling queer characters. You can find it at:

[Dunno how to make that a link.]

So, back to my original point, any good suggestions or recommendations?

It may not be perfect, but this thread has a few suggestions. There was also a thread on "queer heroes", but that probably isn't what you're looking for.

I've yet to find a good queer comic, but I don't read much comics as it is.

Most of the queer comics I've seen have been distributed outside of the mainstream comic industry, especially in head shops, Alternative and Queer bookstores. The best queer comics I have read tend to be in anthologies and zines.

You can't go wrong with enigma. Or with miligan in general, as far as I'm concerned. I even liked The Continuing Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix.

I like nowheregirl (http://www.nowheregirl.com)

I do, I do. It's a web comic, so it's not finished yet, but personally, I think it's fantastic.
