I know when I first read the "what is this site all about anyway?" page, it sounded like you can count on both being argued with and not. Which sounded good to me, which is why I am here. To some extent, you don't have to read the angry threads/posts if you don't want to, just like you don't have to look at whatever kind of porn you don't want to.
I think the cyclical bit is really interesting though. Just kind of "events" in particular always seem to cluster together...surely you've all had the experience where nothing interesting seems to happen for months and then all of a sudden you realize that the month of May (or whatever) is totally crammed full of stuff and you have to pick and choose. Everything goes in cycles? Probably a mundane explanation for this like "posting angry tends to encourage angry posts", but I like to think of it like matter attracting matter...if you have a space-time graph but with probability instead of space plotted against time, everything clusters together like matter forming accretion disks......events have their own "gravity"? Or just standard homowhatsis, stasis that's it. homeostasis where a system keeps itself in line with negative feedback, like expansion/contraction in a star. is there some negative feedback on Barbelith? like, the more angry posts occur in a short time, the more powerful a force toward a reverse trend occurs over time? |
