Their long-awaited new album (sans Eric Avery) is due out soon.

From Jane's News:

Jane's Addiction is back! The band signed with Capitol Records and is
releasing
its all-new studio album, "Hypersonic", on July 22. For those of you that have
been waiting 12 long years, the wait is finally over! New tracks will be
premiered live at the 30+ Lollapalooza shows this summer. Click or copy and

The 11-track collection reunites Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, and
drummer Stephen Perkins with newly-recruited bassist Chris Chaney (Andrew W.K.,
Tommy Lee, Rob Zombie). The legendary Bob Ezrin-the producer behind such
seminal
rock recordings as Pink Floyd's "THE WALL," Alice Cooper's "SCHOOL'S OUT,"
Kiss'
"DESTROYER," and Lou Reed's "BERLIN"-produced "Hypersonic".

You will instantly recognize Jane's Addiction's ever-innovative sound with a
musical immediacy that's poignant, spiritual and utterly sonic. "Hypersonic"
finds the band at its gripping, uncompromising best, from the explosive lead
single, "Just Because," to Perry Farrell's vocally dynamic, live-wire rocker
"Price I Pay," swirling, Navarro-driven "Wrong Girl," and Perkins' frenetic
drumming on the title track.

Warg. Seeing them play 'Three Days' live last year was a deeply religious experience, but, do they still have the ability to write songs...

Please let them still have it. Please let them still have it...

And that first sentence should have had a question mark... Bah.

I couldn't find it on Soulseek... no fair! I heard a track off it on the radio yesterday though... and verily, it rocked. Just like the old days.

Soulseek gives me better results when I use fewer words in the search box. Try searching for Hypersonic instead of Jane's Addiction Hypersonic (assuming thats what you did... ). I found a ton of copies.

If you can't find it, PM me yr soulseek name and I'll put you on my list so you can get it from me.

So then, Strays is out and the hacks all seem to love it. What do the Lithers think?

i haven't heard it yet, but i've only heard awful things so far. my ex-roommate, a big Jane's fan, does web stuff for their label, and she got to hear it about a month and a half ago or so. let's be nice and say she was underwhelmed. the review on Pitchfork isn't very good, either.

barring some weird freak of nature, i'm unlikely to even listen to it at this rate. my level of interest in the album is close to nil, and i'd rather not ruin my fond feelings for the older stuff.

I fucking love it. The track "The Riches" in particular. It just sounds like... like Jane's Addiction. Like it should sound. It's fucking awesome.

All the negative reviews I've read (the Pitchfork and the Big Issue reviews are classic cases in point) seem to be totally missing the point...

It sounds just like Jane's Addiction. Still has the wall of sound. Still has Farrell yelling like a speed-fuelled Muppet. Still has incendiary lead guitar, huge spiralling bass and massive, complex percussion.

People who are looking for something different are just not getting what it was they liked about Jane's in the first place... writing about the nostalgia they feel, not about the band themselves. Listen to Nothing's Shocking again. Then Strays. Then tell me where the stylistic differences are. 'Hypersonic' is a second cousin of 'Idiots Rule'. 'True Nature' rocks like 'Ocean Size'.

This is a comeback album. The purpose of a comeback album is to remind you just how damned good the band/artist used to be. Strays delivers, and, to my mind, anyone saying Navarro, Farrell et all have come in with a 'new sound' needs to trying listening to their old albums again, because memory has clearly played chinese whispers with them...
