They were in originally. They were taken out because they looked dump and certain people have a tendency to keep on using them left, right and centre for no good reason. I really doubt you're going to get them put back, especially if you yourself agree that notbody else seems to want them - what's the point if they're going to be taken out soon afterwards due to lack of use?

Again, you're going to have to explain to me why we *need* spoiler text.

**, as demonstrated there, is just another means of showing emphasis. Like bold or italic text, only quicker.

On another note - administrators appear to have the power to move that posters be warned and banned. Any guidelines on how those work, and under what circs they should be considered?

Right. Admins have those options, but of course it doesn't work, because we never figured out what they were supposed to do..

Next - formatting options were dragged down to the most basic because people have a tendency to get entranced by gadgets and toys rather than the content that they're supposed to be writing. I don't think they add much (if any) value, and more to the point I think they make the site more confusing for new users.

Spoiler text is a long-standing issue with me... I don't know that anyone should be surprised if there are spoilers in a thread about a movie or a comic book - specifically when they mention the issue number they're talking about... Also - it's essentially a bit of a hack, and I don't like hacks...

Ah. There's a very slight problem with the 'Preview' button, Tom.

I hit it by accident when I meant to post to another thread and, instead of just clicking the 'Post' button on the preview page, clicked back one and tried to post from there again. It wasn't having any of it, though; if you do this (preview, then go back a page to your original reply and attempt to post it from there) the 'Post' ends up getting confused with 'Preview' and reloads the preview page.

I'm sure I could have explained that more clearly...

Bear: Those so-called "spoiler tags" are bogus, a bit of a joke: the posters are simply setting the text color so that it's the same as the background color.

Since Barbelith uses two different background colors—different shades of grey in alternate posts—there's no practical spoiler solution forthcoming, even if we allow for colored text: there's a good chance that the text you wanted hidden would be faintly visible anyway...

No, straight colo(u)r wouldn't do it. You could practically have a fake <spoiler> tag which would put a tag around the spoiler text that set its display attribute to "none", and left a link saying "reveal spoiler" which set the text's display to "inline"... the effect being that you would have to click on the link to reveal the spoiler text. It's practical (I've seen it on more than one blog and done similar myself) but it would be a fag to implement, frankly.

You could also have a tag that automatically set the colour to the background, but theoretically that could be even more work.

I think a big fucking thing saying

S

P

O

I

L

E

R

is generally enough for me.

Changing spoiler text to the background color allows you to reveal it by simply highlighting it with your eouse--none of this complicated click stuff.

Could we have something, either in a thread title, to show that it's locked, rather than only telling someone when they try to reply to it? It's just a small FYI thing.
