I'm off with some friends for our (almost) summer break to Andalucia for a couple of weeks.

We're planning on driving from Malaga along the coast to Almeria up past the Sierra Nevada, finishing off in Granada.

If any 'lithers have any tips or recomendations of places to see, things to do, food to eat etc. I'd be very grateful.

Half way between Malaga and Almeria and about 20-odd miles inland are Las Alpujarras mountains. It's absolutely wonderful there, peaceful and slow. The jamon serrano there is so good that my wife renounced her faith. My only other tip would be that cheap CDs bought in petrol stations are shit the whole world over.

There's a little town called Nercha(think that's how one spells it) and very near it are some caves called the nercha caves(surprisingly enough). These are the biggest caves in the whole of Europe and definately worth a visit. If I ever return to Andalucia I'll be certain to go back to them 'cos their amazing. Also like HIR said go into the mountains along that coast. I was actually staying in Nercha when I was there but any of those mountains are as spectacular as the Grand Canyon(in my opinion at least) so their well worth a visit. Hope it goes well and have fun

I've not done the countryside but Malaga itself is nice as cities go, not too many tourists and inexpensive. On your last night, get yourself to the area called El Centro about 11 p.m. when it all kicks off and you can do an all-night tapas crawl. Don't miss your plane though!
