I'm getting links to a naughty site whenever a sexy word like fuck appears. It seems to only be at the 'lith. Is this some sort of Barbeprank or do I need to find out who this computer's been boffing while I was out of town on business?

Anybody remember the specifics on this one? Is there something Qalyn can fix in the preferences?

It was Windows XP last time it happened (though I'm surprised it's happening with 'fuck' &c - doesn't seem very Microsoft somehow) and you could indeed fix that in your preferences. Bit weird that it's only on Barbelith though.

Slightly more on topic, you say these are links to a site, Qal_Yn, as in always the same one? I know a lot of porn sites and warez sites contain nasty bits of code which alter your browser settings, so something could have happened there. My advice is to download and run both Ad-Aware and Spybot to clean out your system. Then check your browser settings. Oh, and if you do a lot of browsing, and especially if you use broadband, get a decent CookieWall.

It's some malarky with .NET, yes. I monkeyed with the preferences and the porn linking stopped, but now I can't get into my hotmail account. Still trying to work it out.

Tez, thanks for the links. I'm going to try it, but this computer is so sick and old I'm not sure it can handle it. I'm anticipating a replacement in a couple of days and will follow your advice.

It's not from porn, though. In fact, I'm mystified about where it could be from. This machine is so busted it can barely handle Barbelith -- it'd take me a week to look at porn. A few weeks ago I was looking around for stuff to help me fix it, so it could've been a warez site, or, as I'm on several homespun distribution lists, it could be something email related. I can't get into any email accounts. Do you think I've disabled something vital, or have my passwords been changed? I can't seem to use the Symantec site right now, either.
