What's the status in legal matters? Are tapes able to be called in as evidence; say you've been beaten up at Oxford Circus - can your lawyers (or you) force the police to provide the tapes?
I also wonder: would there be privacy issues associated with public perusal of the tapes? How would it be/is it governed? Can you only see tape upon which you appear? Say, for argument's sake, that you're looking at a tape of you in a well-known red-light district. And you see the principal of the local school walking down the street, looking in windows, or going into a brothel. You didn't see that person when you were walking along there, but you do now; this besmirches their character (maybe) in a way you previously wouldn't have considered. Is that fair? Is there an onus on the CCTV operators to provide anonymity to people in situations that aren't legally pursued?
I'm not framing this well; can anyone else pick up what I'm trying to say? Gah.
Also: how did the bollock-kicking come out? Was it requested as evidence in a case against the police? Or was it leaked? |
