Dude! It was a fantastic game. It was an absolutely *superb* game. However, I'm not sure that it's the proof that Real are the best team in the world. Defensively, Man U were pretty shitty, certainly in the first half - Ferdinand stood off Ronaldo far too much, and they just didn't cope with the step up - that Ronaldo can volley a rolling ball into the far corner of the goal with his first touch, and you have to deal with that. Barthez should probably have kept that first goal out, as well. I'm not entirely surprised the skinny is that they're looking to offload him.
Also, Veron was sort of anonymous - if Beckham had played from the start then Man U might actually have stood a chance of carrying the game, whereas by 60 minutes it was effectively over as a contest, even if Becks did briefly give the impression that he might be able to achieve miracles. The free kick was superb - not Roberto Carlos flashy, but fast, hard and astonishingly accurate - the scuffed-in goal less so.
So...top match, very exciting, some fantastic football (Real's second goal was built up to with about 19 passes) , and if there is a better attacking side in the world than Real I would love to see them, but their defence was also pretty shaky - Iker Casillas had a *lot* to do, and the own goal was comical. The final should be good. |
