So, I know there's been a lot of complaining about how this place has been getting boring or complacent of late.

Well, I've found a place where there's sparkling conversation, amazing people and lots of fun. Now, like this place, it has it's share of trolls and flame wars (though they're kind of fun there). It's not without it's problems, but nowhere really is. You'd probably love the people there. Nowhere else have I found a more diverse group. Very intelligent and not above a little harmless sarcasm. I'm quite attached to all of them. The diveristy of topics is fantastic. You literally can find someone to talk to about anything. Anything. It's a very free community, very few restrictions.

Now, if you're unhappy here, I urge you to check this place out. Here's the URL:

That was heartwarming, Captain.

I thought you were going to refer us to The Well or something...

Hmm. From the general tone, I was expecting some sort of '...and that place is Jesus' type conclusion. Phew.

I've been to Barbelith but I've never been to me...

kittie - are you on the sugar police? I surrender!

Ganesh - I have only one god, and he's at version 4.2 and counting.

Ah, y'know, I followed that link, and it's not really as good as I thought. Now what's this Well place.....

The Well?

Give the Gift of Good Company?

What the fuck is this shit? If I wanted good company, I wouldn't be in any place that has me as a member. Or Adam Swish for that matter.

(btw, how many arms does Ganesh have? I saw that thing of Beckham as Ganesh [I think] the other day, and I'm sure he should have had more arms - or am I thinking of Shiva?
I've got a masters in philosophical theology you know. Who's Jesus?)

Well this place is all very well, I've met some lovely people and learned an awful lot, but I must confess I've recently been moonlighting here, because a subversive web zone is just not a subversive web zone without its very own resident gay anarchist police commander.

bill - i have been there (urban 75) today. the place is so revolutionary one of the threads is about how 'nasty' anal sex is. i do not feel inspired to return - to say i'm disappointed is putting it mildly....

Feng takes the ball from Mortimer, passes the thread across to Sound, who takes on the Juventus hard man, Fibonacci - a quick flick across to the Headshop....

SFD - yikes, haven't seen that 'un, I'll check it. (My above post wasn't very serious. God forbid that someone claiming to be a cozza shows up here with the paranoia dial as far into the red as it is right now!)

bill - it's in the general discussion forum, under 'another thread about sex'. you might guess who i am!

one thread does not an online community make, but it's given me a horrible first impression. the bloke who started the thread would've got ripped to pieces here, but there's only nervous half criticism there.

Indeed, that guy seems a bit, um,

<decides to be tactful>

off his face possibly?! And why in God's name does someone accuse you of being a primary school teacher?! Most odd.

I thought some of the stuff in Paddick thread was quite sharp tho'. And also it was interesting watching the 'alright, prove your a copper' and 'ohmygod he really is a copper, quick scarper!' reactions his posts got! And having recently witnessed concern (of the nicest sort) that I myself am not real, his 'how the hell am I supposed to prove I'm me?' posts were really appropriate reading for me today!

I had a look at that thread too, sfd. One thing strikes me.

Given that I am hetero, why do I feel more comfortable talking sex with gays/bis/lesbians? Ahh, its that whole nasty poo hole commentary, isn't it.

Either that or it's the relative paucity of automatic assumptions; individuals who identify as gay/lesbian/bi/transgender have generally gone through a process of conscious self-examination where sex and sexuality are concerned. I'd say the 'average' gay/bi/etc individual has usually (not always, but usually) thought about their sexuality more than the 'average' heterosexual.

Oh, man, that urban75 thread is hilarious.

"Oooh! Lookit me! Lookit me start a thread on bum fun! I'm so naughty and outrageous and edgy. Better tell everyone how narsty it is tho, and make sure they know who's on top- wouldn't want them to think I was taking it up the Garry, now would I?"

Priceless.

granted, this bloke might be a lone troll on the board, but if this is 'subversion' and 'counter-culture' (he wasn't exactly called on his shit) just where the fuck does it leave me?

i don't wish to enter into backslapping here, but barbefolk generally are *amazingly* more sorted than folk on any other message board i've been to.

Yeah, and on a related note, how did the media get hold of all that stuff Commander Brian said? I mean, talking to a mate last night, we decided someone on that site must have shopped him. Now okay, I appreciate a police offaca is not gonna get total sympathy on an anarchist site, but fucksake, if they'd wanted to have a go at a pig, why pick on the one openly gay one who's obviously a lot more open-minded than the majority? Great, get him sacked why don't you? See how you like his replacement...

i saw a post of brian's last night, and it seemed like the folks in that forum were genuinely interested in hearing what he had to say and communicating with him. good stuff.

*but*, as i found out, there are some idiots there, and many others who are not at all politically sussed, who maybe don't realise what a step forward this commander represents. but to shop him to the media.... i thought the golden rule was never, ever conspire with the media! urban75 just doesn't seem to have the kind of awareness that's apparent on barbelith.

Indeed. There's many an irony in shopping one 'pig' to another bunch of 'pigs'. But I guess someone made some money there...
