Well, what's the verdict? I like it.

The tiny red 'X' in the little white box has a certain minimalist charm, yes.

Where did you find this?

Mike-O
22:02 / 22.04.03
X-fan, actually.

Anyway, I'm quite impressed with Bachalo's work. From what I've seen hsi work on New X looks even better than that he which he did for Ultimate. Love that Cyclops....

Ah, that's a nice drawing. It seems very 'pop' to me, I like the thick outlines and the solid colors. Bachalo gets the costume exactly right, too. This is a major improvement over the previous cover with Wolverine, and pretty much everything else the man has drawn in the past three years.

(I've got to say that the anal retentive part of me will cringe every time I see the title of this thread, though - it should be New X-Men #144. That's the thread titling protocol here on Barbelith...)

Done. and sorry bout that, Flux, ol' buddy ol' pal. :P

Or not. Hahahaha..... no luck!

The Falcon

Very nice, Mike. Thanks.

I suspect the cover for #143 may feature Chris B's interpretation of Fantomex, which ought to be something to see, too.

once more an attempt to post the image...

Did anyone read Rich Johnson's column this week?

He says that the next story arc is called "Planet X" and is drawn by Phil Jiminez.

Then it's Marc Silvestri's turn to draw which means he'll be drawing issue 150...

Nice and shiny. But why is he floating in a huge vat of urine? Is this X-Men or The Filth?

Could you link that column, geezer?

Perhaps I was a little too hasty with my last post because I just remembered that Jiminez was billed as drawing 8 issues this year, right? In which case we won't see Silvestri until issue 151.

Also, why did Grant write a story involving "The search for Wolverine's past"?

I'm sure he said there was no need for this kind of thing back in the "Morrison Manifesto" in the back of the first trade.

No problem, ace... just take the link to
Lying In The Gutters
and scroll down to the rumours on New X Men.

I think he meant that he would settle it once and for all- that after his run no more need be said.

Optimistic... no such thing was said. Morrison simply implied that getting caught up in continuity gets a book nowhere, whereas the exploration of new grounds with a character is all good. Morrison's take on Logan's past is inherently his own, and not a recapitulation of someone else's overdone interpretation. Weapon Plus is all new. As for Jimenez.... well, just because he is billed for 8 issues in 2003 doesn't mean that will happen... Silvestri was signed AFTER that announcement, and so I would imagine the book would be kept to about 4 or 5 issue "artist arcs". I would still prolly count on Jimenez pencilling 150, but then again you never know...

The stuff about uncanny is pretty fucking grim.

Seems to imply that the murderer gets involved in the assualt arc.

But then as Grant said, his sources are shite.

Not being adept at navigating around comics-related sites, I can't find either cover on X-Fan. Any handy hints?

I honestly wish you were right, but I just can't get out of my mind the fact that after the release of Origin Jemas said it will be tied in into regular continuity... somehow. As it is unlikely it will tie into the Wolverine title, I fear the intention is grooming to get Grant, at some point, to take charge of it, especially since he has no appointed "good-bye" issue in his run, as far as I know...

And now there should appear the bloody pic... ABRACADABRAAAAA!!!

Whooosh!!!

This is fairly ridiculous, now we have three identical covers on the thread. I am deleting mine...

Terri tied it in. His near death exprience story.

Morrison is not one to follow the lead of others (unless he credits them with truly inspiring his current work, much like Claremont's older work did to some degree)...

Mike-O... I don't want to sound too pedantic but that's exactly what he says: "And no more need be said about Logan's origins."

Mike-O
00:22 / 24.04.03
I hear u, but again as I see it Morrison is commenting on the redundancy of "Logan's Origins"... what he is exploring has more to do with a means of exploiting mutant power on a global level, more than just being Wolverine's origin.

The cover looks ehh...I don't like the colors.. The interior pages look like this issue might be just as jumbled and mediocre as last issue was (in my opinion)....I hope I'm wrong, I want to love this issue....

A link to the review of NEW X-MEN 144 up at The Fourth Rail:

http://www.thefourthrail.com/reviews/snapjudgments/080403/newxmen144.shtml

Unfortunately, it sort of confirms my concerns -- and I usually agree with Randy Ladner's opinions...our tastes usually line up (although I didn't think Morrison went too out there with JLA and I like THE FILTH). We'll see how it reads when it comes out...

The cover looks like a convention sketch done with a fat Sharpie marker. For shame.

*LOL*! Aaah, Ethan, I miss your art on this book. What are you working on lately? I know you did one-issue guest art stints on HAWKMAN and AQUAMAN, and the AQUAMAN covers have looked great!! (I heard Aquaman's cancelled, is it really? I thought Will Pfeiffer of the terrific H.E.R.O. was taking over the writing on that book?) (sorry to go so off-topic)

I don't expect this to be very good, TBH, 'cause it hasn't exactly rocked my world so far. Howeeeeeever, the art does look pretty nice this time around (think the colourists prolly have a lot to do with this) and any reviewer that comes out with this

Morrison takes the book into a completely different tone, more akin to his work on Doom Patrol......which is a little too out there for my tastes

is, well, a bit of a cock, and I think we can ignore him just a little bit.

Actually, I rather like the cover. It's simple, colorful, and uncluttered. It's attractive, and I think it's a lot better than most of the non-Frank Quitely covers than have gone before it on this series. I was pretty fond of the previous issue's cover as well - it's too bad Bachalo isn't making his interior pages as simple and graceful.

Ethan is working on a 2-issue CATWOMAN mini with Ann Nocenti.

prety image on link. I'd buy it if I wasn't poor at the moment. bleh.
