Just had this emailed to me from a friend. I don't know if it's legit or fabrication, but I thought it might lead to some good discussion:

The Intelligence of our Presidents
by Jennifer L. Borenstein of the Bakersville News Service

The intelligence of our presidents has never been seriously scrutinized at any time in our history until now. There is a widespread perception that President G. W. Bush is not qualified for the position he holds.

That increasing awareness by the people has led to a study of the intellectual ability of all presidents for the past fifty years. There have been twelve presidents in that time, from Roosevelt to G. W.Bush.

All were rated based on scholarly achievements, writings that they alone wrote, their ability to speak effectively, and a number of psychological factors. The conclusions of the study, conducted by an independent think tank located in Scranton, Pennsylvania were surprising.

This think tank includes high caliber historians, psychiatrists, sociologists, scientists in human behavior, and psychologists. Among their ranks are Dr. Werner Levenstein, world-renowned sociologist, and Professor Patricia A. Williams, a world-respected psychiatrist. All members of the think tank are experts at being able to detect a person's IQ from the criteria stated earlier. After four months of research, these learned men and women have determined the IQs of each president within a range of five percentage points.

The IQs listed below are the norms for each president.

147 Franklin D. Roosevelt (D)

132 Harry Truman (D)

122 Dwight D. Eisenhower (R)

174 John F. Kennedy (D)

126 Lyndon B. Johnson (D)

155 Richard M. Nixon (R)

121 Gerald Ford (R)

175 James E. Carter (D)

105 Ronald Reagan (R)

099 George HW Bush (R)

182 William J. Clinton (D)

091 George W. Bush (R)

The non-partisan researchers who evaluated the twelve presidents determined that the six Republican presidents for the past 50 years had an average IQ of 115.5, with President Nixon having the highest IQ, at 155.

President G. W. Bush was rated the lowest of all the Republicans with an IQ of 91.

The six Democrat presidents had IQs with an average of 156, with Bill Clinton having the highest at 182.

President Johnson was rated the lowest of all the Democrats with an IQ of 126.

The margin of error is plus or minus five percent. This study was initiated on February 13, 2001 and completed on June 17, 2001. This study validated the widespread feeling of people about the sitting president. President Bush was rated low because of his inability to command the English language, his lack of any scholarly achievements, and an absence of anything authored by him that would reflect an intellectual effort.

Shows you where my head is at these days, but I find it interesting that the three highest-rated (Clinton, Carter, and Kennedy) all have an adultery link (Bubba and JFK actively pursuing affairs, Jimmy making that comment about having lusted after women in his thoughts).
I guess this is definitive proof that the smartest guys are also the horniest. So no worries about any sex scandals in the current administration, eh?

The Guardian trusted it and had it in their paper today - couldn't find it online though.

I find it hard to believe that Clinton was the most intelligent of all the presidents - but then again Nixon was the most intelligent Republican, so maybe they used their intelligence to be absolute shits.

(By the way, did you know that Richard Milhouse Nixon and William Jefferson Clinton are the only two presidents names which you can make the word 'criminal' out of?)

As for Bush, I'd want to know if one of the criteria - "writings that they alone wrote" - allows for work done in crayon. It just ain't fair otherwise.

Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar.

I wonder where Lincoln (R) would fit on that scale.

I find this correlation to be a bit more interesting...

I don't know how much relevance that I give to I.Q. tests. I have noticed that Bush comes off fairly well when he's got something to read in front of him. When he's on the spot in front of reporters, he's like a deer in front of the headlights and comes across as shrill, hostile and clueless. This is why he absolutely does not give press conferences in the U.S., since that would expose him for the moron that he is.

What really amazes me is that the guy stole the election and thinks that that gives him a popular mandate. I've been reduced to calling him "The Little Dictator" since that seems to be how he views his position.

Actually, I think all this "isn't Bush stoopid, look here's an e-mail with some stoopid things he may or may not have said" stuff is potentially quite unhelpful... It's hardly what you'd call satire. It just makes people feel self-satisfied and complacent because they're not as dumb as he may or may not be, and thus even less inclined to worry about what effect he might have on their lives or the world...

And god knows we have gotten used to him in Texas.

"I was raised in the west. The west of Texas. It's pretty close to California. In more ways than Washington, D.C., is close to California." G.W. Bush, in Los Angeles as quoted by the Los Angeles Times, April 8, 2000

Yep, that steaming intellect is all ours. I am packing for Canada.

Fortunately someone is chronicling his every stupid moment for posterity:

I figure the G.O.P. media gorillas had to work overtime to prevent the popular media from referring to Georgie-boy as "Junior". what the hell is "Dubya"? might as well call him G-Bu.

We have a panel of individuals who basically are going through academic records and watching CNN in an effort to guage intelligence. Seems rather dubious to me.

Well, if it makes us all feel any better, Ol' Junior's IQ is higher than most Americans.

Can't seem to link it online - probably because I'm not trying - but the Associated Press news agency put out a story earlier in the month revealing these IQ tests to be a hoax.

The Guardian (see my post above) have been apologising for it all week; and I'm sorry to say I believed them. Arse.

I use to live right outside of Scranton...knowing the general population out there, I'd suggest looking for a better source for this info. Any idea which "think tank" developed this...was under the impression that anyone capable of thinking moved away from there in general.

George Senior used to be in charge of the agency; that's the main reason a Bush in the White House doesn't sit well with me.

Oddly enough, seeing as we're on the subject of presidents, Doug Moench's Big Book of Conspiracies (which is a damn fine read, and a great comic book too) points out that neither Bush Snr or Nixon can remember where they were the day of the (John F) Kennedy assasination.

Which is odd, because according to Doug, both were in Dallas....

George Sr was also having lunch w/ John Hinckley's father the day before Reagan was shot. Or so I've heard.
