The great Throbbing Gristle ketamine experiment

Apologies for making you wait so bastard long for this- it's the 23rd of the 24 hours, so I thought it would be appropriate to listen to it on ketamine and see how that enhanced the experience, and it's been ages since both my flatmates have been out AND the dogs have been asleep so I had the house to myself. Having said that, I'm not sure it was such a good idea.

Hour 23- Fan Club, Leeds
Snorted some ketamine. Lay down and started the CD. What came next is a blur... I have a vague recollection of "The Old Man Smiled", but overall my main abiding impression was that this was a much more pleasant experience than I'd expected. I think it started with those wonderful TG "animal in pain a long way off" echoes, but for the large part I think it was mostly Carter's electronics- this was certainly TG at the "Tangerine Dream" end of their repertoire.

I will listen to this one again and see how it compares!

Just listened to it again without the ketamine- it was actually a fairly hectic one, lots of Gen screaming, a nice krautrock style bassline going through much of the middle of it, very little in the way of Carter's love of pop music...

Why am I reminded of Chris Morris saying "But to someone on Cake, it sounds like this..."?

I finally got my TG box set recently and listened to the whole thing, great stuff.

Chairman, did your box set come with the 25th Cd, live at Scala Cinema? If not, e-mail Mute and ask them how you can get it, they'll reply back that if you give them your address they'll ship it to you.

I damn well think I will!

How cool is that box, though? And all the stickers & patches and stuff... it truly is a thing of beauty.

Yes, it is a pretty box, I was supposed to get it on Christmas but got it in March, just after I gave up all hope. All my other on-line friends think I'm insane for getting it, but they have no taste in music! I actually only spent $90 on it, my parents paid the other $90 as part of my Christmas gift (my dad ordered it from Barnes & Noble and he gets a 40% discount on all orders as he is the manager there). But yeah, if you ask Mute how to get it they should send it for free (at least, they did for me and the person who told me about it).

I loved all the stuff it came with, though I won't be using the stickers on anything, but now the memetic terrorist pin is on my backpack. I'm really glad that TG has latched on to the whole meme theory thing, proving they're still cutting edge. This validates my theory that they're perhaps the ultimate "Invisibles" band (though Psychic TV comes very close).

I get where you're coming from with the whole TG/Invisibles thing, Sypha, but I reckon Psychic TV more so. They had the whole accessible pop culture thing going on, and more actively encouraged people to research magick. And you gotta bet King Mob'd love any band who very early on realised the wonders of MDMA before most people caught on!

H'mm, you may have a point there. I've been reading a lot of the Psychic Tv texts and they do seem very Invisible-ish. I know GM was inspired by the Temple of Psychick Youth. And the whole idea for a Psycic Tv that deprograms people reminds me of the Invisible plan in Volume 3 to create "Invisible TV".

I think I read somewhere that the Psychic TV video for "Roamn P" had the band members dressed up in Manson TV shirts singing in a replica of the room where Sharon Tate was killed. And that's a pretty poppy song!

where did you get these "Psychic Tv texts"? the Temple of Psychick Youth web site? i thought Gen had cut all ties to the Temple of Psychick Youth.

And of course the official Temple of Psychick Youth website.

Varis 08, do you use SoulSeek? A few minutes ago I was on there trying to download a Monte Cazazza track off someone named varis 08, but I quit because it was taking forever.

well, IRCD26, live at Scala Cinema, came in the mail today, along with an explanation on why it wasn't included in the original box and a glossy 100 page Mute catalogue. Nice...

One thing I wonder about the first TG album: On the back it says that the first Maggot Death is from the Rat Club, but upon listening to the Rat Club live Cd I did not hear it: I did however hear the Maggot Death "studio" track at that live show. A typo perhaps?

Bah, it's down right now. I really should put some stuff in my shared folder, but my computer is so low on memory. I think I'll just take the rarest industrial/electronic stuff I have in my collection and put that on so people can download that.

yes, Sypha, that is a good idea. what is your 'name' on Soulseek, so i can get some of that "industrial/electronic stuff"?

My name on Soulseek right now is Sypha Nadon, same as here. Truth be told I'm getting a little tired with the program, seems everytime after I download it my internet starts messing up and I have to delete it and reinstall it. And these last 2 days it seems to be down everyday, very annoying.

Currently my folder is empty however, I don't have much memory on my computer so it's hard to store MP3s. Still, if there's anything specific you're looking for, just let me know...
