How far back do your memories go?
The Museum of the Mind: Art and memory in world cultures

17 April - 7 September 2003
Admission Free

To celebrate out 250th anniversary, this major display incorporates the whole Museum and its collection. At its heart 60 key objects illustrate the subject of memory across different cultures and time. The exhibition celebrates the Museum itself as a receptacle of memory and explores the concepts of portraiture, identity, ritual, currency, funerary and commemorative sculpture, shrines and festivals. Souvenirs and memorabilia from before the 4th millenium BC are featured along with evidence of deliberate attempts to distort and efface memory.

Official Site.

Well, it's got me interested. And seems like a Barbelithy kind of thing. So, would anyone care to join me? I was planning on going on Sunday the 27th April, with optional filthpubbing afterwards

Hey, we could also take the opportunity of seeing some of the few Mesopotamian artefacts still in public collections after the looting in Iraq...

[I dunno whether I'll be around or not, but if I am it might be a nice thing to do with a Sunday]

That sounds smart- not sure I can make the 27th, though.
I love the BritMus- it's probably my favourite place in London.

Just bumping this up to get any other little teases, and will be waiting outside Gosh comics in Russell Street at 2 pm as it's probably easier than the large entrance to the Museum.

I can't bump this up but will be attending.

If we go to a pub, can we go to one that has an alternative to filthbeer. I know this is lith heresy but that's that.

I still might or might not or now might just turn up at the pub. Sorry- hopeless at the moment but likely will not be in vicinity of Barbelith so will probably ring someone or something.

In that case Potus, d'ya wanna name a local pub that everyone knows or at least can find easily? There's The Plough on Museum St, for eg. It's not the most spacious, but it ain't filthbeer. And Aleister Crowley used to drink there.

Right, as no-one seems inclined to make a decision I'm going to say Yes, The Plough on Museum Street.
Your map milady?

Sorry, my knowledge of pubs in the area is fairly limited. Guess I don't spend enough time drunk in the presence of a bunch of clever stuff. Maybe I should drink more filthbeer.

Well, that was quite fun actually, the inside of the BM I hadn't seen before and looks very nice. A word of warning to anyone else planning to go, the exhibition is disappointingly small, so make sure you have something else to do, like we did by going to the pub afterwards, where I found out how even a few pints is a bad idea when you've still got a cold and are tired, Bengali in Platforms and Anna had a mutual appreciation society over one another's coats and B.i.P decided to try and spill everyone's pint.

And if anyone want's to know Flyboys PIN number it's... oh arse! I've forgotten!

Please, someone, take my PIN number and withdraw all my money and keep it in a box under your bed so I don't spend it all doing foolish, foolish things like getting monstered by booze on a Sunday...

Can I just in all seriousness apologise for the state I was in by the end of yesterday and any grievances I may have caused... I know it's a running joke that some of us get more pissed than others, but there's a point at which it stops being funny, and I seem to have an unerring ability to fuck things up when they're at their best. Sorry.
