Anyone else in the UK watching this? Its strangely addictive. In each episode they take three scenes from three different films and then try and prove scientifically whether they could happen in real life. The whole thing is filmed in one of the presenters houses and in general they use basic things you could find round your home. At the end of each show they give an award to the starring actor of the film for the worst science in Hollywood. One of the presenters is Robert Llewellyn (Kryten form Red Dwarf).
Last night the theme was water and they compared scenes from Deep Blue Sea, The Last Castle (I think), and The Living Daylights. They proved that you couldn't fire a grappling hook at a helicopter with a torent of water but you could breath the air out of a car tyre whilst underwater (with difficulty).
In the past they proved that you could make soap out of fat (Fight Club), its better to fill a safe with water before blowing the door off (The Score), and that you wouldn't be invisible to heat cameras just beacuse the aircon has been turned off (The thomas Crown Affair).
Hollywood science is very cheasy, very cheap, the science is kept very simple and it very entertaining! BBC2 Weds 7:30.
Just thought I'd spread the word! |
