Sending messages in dreams

Hi,

I should be studying but I've got this burning question. I searched it already and was unsucessful but I'm sure there must be stuff on here about this topic so if you know, refer away. Anyhow, do people think it's possible to send and receive dream messages? I mean obviously dream messages from another (living) human or to another living human. I had a fever the other morning and had a rather vivid dream in which a friend was asking me if I was happy - I know, it's stupid, feverish as I was - but later when I remembered I really felt like he meant it. But the kernel of my question really is how would one go about sending someone a dream message? Can it be done and how? Should it be done? I'm separated from a lot of people I love and I'd really love to send them a broadcast in this way now and then. I'm not talking about distorting people's entire dream, just putting some sort of message into their existing dream, either verbally, pictorally or symbolically or a combination of these.

BTW, sometimes I think my cats communicate to me through my dreams, usually things like "get up and feed me, you lazy slapper". Still it makes sense that they would communicate through sensory input, plus according to Diana Wynne Jones cats communicate to humans pictorally.

There was a thread I was involved in a little while ago (which sort of relates) about Mutual Dreaming and I also recall in another thread someone posted about a dream where an ex-girlfriend appeared. The next day she called him, but I can't remember who's post it was. Damn. That's not much help is it? Sorry.

Maybe someone else can?

Diana Wynne Jones is right about everything, and I suspect one of the pre-eminent magicians of our time.
That mutual dreaming thread is v.relevant, I suspect the best way to send a message is to Lucid Dream and visit them, or envision a bloody great friendly giant dream postman and send him with a dream letter.
Why not try it on someone you can check the results with and see what you get?

I'm not being funny, but if you want to send messages to loved ones and friends why not just email them or send them a letter - its probably easier and more reliable than sending dream messages, dont get me wrong i think to experiment with such stuff is well worth while but I suspect that if you know subconciously that you could achieve the same thing by 'mundane' means then the effect might be weakend or non existent.
it might be more useful to find a willing friend a try to send specific messages to each other in 'test' conditions, that way you can verify your results.

another angle on dreaming is this;
The friend you dreamed about might represent a part of your own psychy, in other words you might be trying to tell yourself something. If you look at how you see your freind - especially the idealised/romantic notion of that person, you might find the thing that that person represents to your inner world - it is this part that is trying to get through to you. Now this could become a powerful tool for selfanlysis/divination. Over time you could build up a personal dream dictionaty.
Thats not to undermine the idea of outside influnces coming into your dreams or of you being able to send out, but i think as a first port of call its the more likly response.

If your into ritual there are some intresting rituals for sending dreams/appearing in dreams to people in 'Hermetic Magic' by stephen flowers. Though this material requires some dedication, but you could use the general ideas and incorporate them into your own ritual context.
