so, i'm jewish, and i'm going to a seder at my mothers house tonight, and i have been explaining passover to a good friend of mine, and came up with a few ideas i thought i would share
At the seder you dont just remember your ancestors slavery, you are supposed to experience it, and then feel the joy of freedom. This seems like a sympathetic magic or shamantic ritual, based on what i have read here.
Also, the prophet elijah's story ends with
"Before he died, Elijah declared that he would return once each generation in the guise of any poor or oppressed person, coming to people's doors to see how he would be treated. By the treatment offered this poor person, who would be Elijah himself, he would know whether the population had reached a level of humanity making them capable of participating in the dawn of the Messianic age."
suggesting that the messianic age wont just happen, like the 2nd coming in revalations, but WE need to get to a point where the messiah will WANT to arrive.
im just tossing these ideas around at work, anything further you folks may have would be cool. |
