Sent PM's - keeping a record?

When you PM someone, if they don't reply including the text you wrote, there is no record of the message you send. Are there plans to have this facility in the message part of the board? A sort of Sent PM's section if you like.

(I presume I'm not being really dozy, and this doesn't exist already somewhere....)

olula, try sending yourself the PM if it is an important one.

it will arrive in your inbox just like any other, and it will say from olulabelle on it.

the tricky bit is that it wont let you send to multiple recipients... what i did was use the back button(MS explorer) after i had sent my PM, paste a new addressee in and then resend.
in the same way that you can purposefully do multiple posts like this, you can resend the same PM a million times.

remember, there is always the option to archive offline, onto CD perhaps. save the relevant webpages onto said disk, and then you will have a permanent copy of that section of barbelith from that time.

There's not really a whole lot of plans to make the private messaging process larger or more functional. I think it's important to keep the board as lean and clean as we can...

Tom, thanks for this reply. Recently I had a big trauma, and so many people were lovely and sent me messages about it, and I randomly replied in a state of brain-strain and had no recollection of what I'd sent. I tell you this to explain why, to some people, the PM part of Lith is very important and also to outline the reason for my question.

Obviously, now I hope I shall have no more need for brain-strain replies to PM's.

So all I would say is that PM's appear to me to be quite a valuable part of Lith, and given the support I got through my hard times (from, for example, people I'd never even come into board contact with) I'd perhaps suggest that the functionality involved in upgrading the message system could only benefit us all.

I think if I'm honest, my feelings about this are purely pragmatic - as a rule I don't manage to get enough specced out for Barbelith as it is - and there are a variety of places where it would be really useful for me to pull my finger out and build some decent mechanisms in... I'm quite willing to put private messaging improvements on the list (most of the things on the list don't actually take cal a long time to build, but they do take me a while to get clear what I WANT him to build) but they're probably going to be quite a way off anyway...

Yes, I understand that. There's much more that's important.

Hmmm, on the subject of Cal, I always envisage him as some sort of being who fixes things but who has no actual reality, aka Hal. Presumably this is actually the joke/point?!

Let's have a pic of him in the photo's thread...

But wouldn't that ruin the mystery? It'd be like draining Loch Ness, or opening Joanna Southcott's box.

Oh, Cal's quite real. He's got his own website an' all.

Yes. And he is most bashful. Without looking like Bashful in the slightest.
