New White Queen series announced

Grant's on board to make sure they don't fuck up, thank god.

Emma's already got a rich history -pieces, but still. Wasn't she in an asylum at one point? And two sisters, too.

I'm glad Grant's maintaining some control, but is this a redux of the T&A girl-centered books of a few years ago? Emma is different than that -so maybe it's a good permutation of that mold? Or a corruption of a growing character?

I guess Emma's not getting killed off, then.

Some of the artwork looks more than a little fucked up, like- can't people be bothered to buy porn mags these days?

Yes and you think they'd be at home in a porn shop as most of the clientele probably have similar BO problems.

What does it do when you assume? Why do comics have to be justified, all the time? No other media would care.

Anyway, I won't be buying this.

Though she's not averse to cosmetic surgery, so at least a more honest 'bad girl', then.

I'm starting to think that Marvel's explosion of new titles out of nowhere is a very bad sign for the industry, which is just starting to recover from the glut of the mid 90's. Marvel's pumping out of 6 new comics a month for the next 3 - 6 months means that they will double their output in a time when retailers are not doing all that well, and readers are showing no signs of having more disposable income.

I remember Grant saying a while back that comics were going to have one last glorious explosion of popularity, and then would fade into oblivion...maybe the comics themselves won't get the explosion, instead it will be the licensed products...if more comics stores fail, I can't see new readers finding anything to buy.

I agree, Solitaire. Comic books are a small market niche, overally, and not to think Marvel has always targeted a smaller niche within that already small niche (super-heroics mainly... and all that shit). And it is sort of too blatantly ridiculous that "strategy" (for lack of a better name) of "hey, X-Men is cool, Emma is cool and fans seem to like her, lets make a mini", which can only lead to producing loads of more shit.

Do they derive this type of things through internet polls such as "hit the button to indicate who should get his own title!"??

Very smart point, Solitaire. Just look on Newsarama, and you can see a plethora of new Marvel projects that are just going clutter the market (White Queen ongoing, Silver Surfer ongoing, Spider Man/Wolverine mini), and keep in mind, this is before Epic even launches. Either Marvel is trying to completely dominate the market through sheer volume, or they're trying to burn out all their corporate finances. This amount of bad superhero comics cannot be good for the industry.

I find it amazing that you appear to know they're bad before they've been released.

Certainly the ideas behind the latest incarnation of Silver Surfer are better than they have been historically. I'll be checking it out.

As for Epic, it would seem that it's, at least in part, simply an attempt to keep the fans on side by offering the illusion of participation in the creative process. That's not to say I believe that there will be no unknowns published by Epic. For the venture to retain a veneer of authenticity it's important that they publish at least a few unknowns.

Maybe for the superhero/mainstream stuff.

For some of the projects, like the Wolverine/Spider Man mini, just going on Marvel's track record, almost every Wolverine/someone miniseries has been received poorly. That said, Silver Surfer looks like it could be interesting, and the Russian book from Epic looked pretty solid.
