The Smokey Bears' Picnic is a traditional mass lawbreaking demo which goes on every August in Portsmouth UK. Brave souls gather on the huge beachfront space of Southsea Common to smoke joints in flagrant breach of UK cannabis prohibition, in such large numbers that the police are powerless to stop it.
For the last 3 years the local cops have developed a propaganda thread around the event, turning up in ever-increasing numbers & occupying approaches to the common land, to intimidate people thinking of joining the crowd. They even think they are winning, and they can stop the picnic altogether one year soon.
Personally, I like prohibition, as it bolsters the black market cross - connections in a unique way, but the idea of breaking the law in the face of the man and then laughing at 'em just turns me on. Anyone who might be thinking of attending this August's bash, get on the thread and we'll see if we can't cooperate to teach the cops a simple lesson - there's more of us than there are of you.
ALSO .. I hear Mark Thomas is awarding £500 to the best footage reclaimed from police & cctv surveillance tapes... after this picnic, that money's as good as mine ....
